Hello. I''m shopping for a d-g vvs-vs small diamond ring, and I was wondering what''s the price range I should be shooting for. My quick glance through few places gave me a pretty wide variance in the price, about $300-$800. Is that what I should expect? Thanks for the thoughts.

Possibly in that range...what metal are you looking for (gold or platinum)? That will also play into the price if you are searching for the entire ring.

Hi PJK555! Welcome to PS!

Based on what I found using the PS Diamond Cut Quality Search (located at the top of the page) $600 - $800 seems like a reasonable price range based on the details you''ve provided so far.

D - G and VVS1 - VS2 range is quite extensive so if you narrow it down a little bit, at least clarity wise, you should be able to get a tighter price range.

Good luck with your search!

Yellow gold would be preferable. 18k I think.

Actually, I''m not sure if I can distinguish between D from G nor vvs1 from vs2 especially in such small diamond. It''s just that she prefers smaller diamond and I figured I should add some value by going vvs perhaps. What''s the ball park price difference between say vvs1 and vs1? D and G?

I know its not exactly what you are looking for but I just bought a .42 hearts and arrows ags ideal 0 F VS2 from James allen for $1110 after everything. This is similar and should be really nice. (I personally couldn't find anyone who could even compare with those prices for that quality of ring)

(its $560 with pricescope discount)

and I got this setting in white gold and its really nice (here is yellow gold) http://www.jamesallen.com/products/item_57-1970_build.asp?cid=57&item=1970&module=setting

total-$820 for a very high quality ring, I highly recommend h and a

heres a .40 that costs a little more (still h and a)

I wanted to get her a really nice ring since it was relatively small (compared to most of the pricescopers). The james allen Hearts and arrows really sparkle!

Yellow gold will be great, in my opinion, but I''m biased b/c I love yellow gold.

Good point! You may well not be able to distinguish b/n D - G. Have you tried looking at well cut diamonds, in person to assess your level of "color" sensitivity? If not, it may be worth your while as there is certainly a premium applied to stones graded as D - F, in color. G would be your best bargain, if you determine that you are good with this color, b/c it falls right outside the "colorless" range but is right at the top of the next range. Many find it difficult to discern the difference b/n an F and G color stone, for example.

With regards to clarity, if you are just concerned with avoiding any "visible" inclusions, the VS range is a safe bet. You could even go down to the SI range, however, you would have to be more diligent about confirming whether or not the diamond in which you are interested is actually "eyeclean" or has no visible inclusions apparent to the unaided eye. Going to the VVS range is not really necessary, unless you are particular about wanting that level of clarity or it is a "mind clean" issue where you just don''t like the idea of inclusions, period etc.

There can be a significant pricing difference ... If you try the PS Diamond Cut Quality Search Tool Click Here you may be able to get a better idea of what pricing some of the trusted PS vendors are offering right now.

I hope this helps!

Welcome!

When considering pricing, we really need to know if you are considering buying online, or with a jeweller. Online prices can be less than those of a brick and mortar establishment generally, so if you could let us know, then we could offer some more accurate input with pricing. If you were comparing online and jeweller prices, you probably will see a variance.

Also with this size diamond, you could definitely consider dropping the colour and clarity, unless you personally want D VVS.

I agree, I think he should drop to F or G and drop clarity. If he's willing to pay $820 for the hearts and arrows I found (and buy online) I think that is the best way to go.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

also-The ring I found is VS2 which means it should be eyeclean (you should ask though) so dropping down in clarity should not matter (because you won't be able to see a difference).
