Wow, you have a wide variety there! I really advise you to get your color decided because there is a big difference between G and K. Are you going to the store to see these or are you viewing online? If online, you won''t be able to tell a thing about color. You have a wide clarity range as well. You might want to go to the Good Old Gold site and looks at the section on the 4 C''s. It will show you great examples of color and clarity.

I assume since you say you are seeing these tomorrow you are going to the store?? Big range of stones you have listed. Make sure they are eye clean, those that are SI1, SI2. See if you can notice the differences in color. Also some of them are a tad on the deep side. Trust your eyes and see what speaks to you, good luck!!!!

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I am seeing these in the store tomorrow. There is a range and its not all my doing. I picked out a couple and then asked to look at some other comparisons. I think I''d like to be in the H range but would like to see some others. The clarity is is also somewhat wide but those that I am seeing should be eyeclean because we eliminated ones that weren''t. I also noticed a few were deep.

It will help alot seeing them in person but I also want to know if I should be looking for anything in particular. They will probably all look good to me in the store but I want a diamond that will look great anywhere my gf wears it. Thanks!

Go with the G colour stone.

I can''t believe you are even considering anything less.

Ask them to allow you to view them in the sunlight, get away from the halogen lights. Also I forget if any have flouresence but check for that as well. I like flouresence, have it in my stones. But you want to make sure it doesn''t make the stone appear cloudy or milky. Take your time, and take notes. Sometimes you will love a certain thing about a stone, but once you leave the store it''s all jumbled in your head. So jot down your thoughts.

Before you pass judgement, I suggest you do some research on here and look at the threads with J and K stones (not to mention the H and I). When a diamond is ideally cut even at lower colors it faces up white. I also suggest you read the in depth articles on this site.

For me personally, in a superideal round I would go as low as I... and my current diamond is an F... a high F. And I''m color sensitive.

Hi Elagabalus ...

I can believe it ... it''s not really that difficult to do.

If the diamond is an ideal cut diamond ... you would be amazed at how white they can face up!

By the way, unusual tag line ... so do you think your an "undefeatable sun god?" Just curious.

Have a nice day.

... just take a lil'' note pad and pen with you, so that you will be able to remember what characteristics went with the right diamond.

Good luck, and let us know what you saw & thought!

Elagabalus - colour or lack of in diamonds is a very personal thing. Some will only have the colourless, some prefer in between and others the warmer colours. In considering less than a G colour, many people have been able to get their dream diamond which they wouldn''t have had otherwise, especially with a great cut which is most important, these diamonds can look far better than some of their lesser cut D and E counterparts. I would suggest you have a look in the Show me the Ring forum to see some beautiful examples of H, I, J and K - and even lower to see how stunning these diamonds are. Might not be to your taste even but the thing is for us to help show ALL the colour options so that anyone who is new to diamonds can make their own minds up as to what colour grade works for them.

Elagabalus, May I remind you that you HAD TO AGREE to the following statements before becoming a member of the PriceScop forums?

"Help and respect each other, stay positive, considerate, and supportive."

"Do not tolerate rudeness, personal attacks, or any unethical behavior."

Please, try to be nice and remember that whatever your opinions or standards, they are YOUR opinions and standards. Try to make sure your statements are neither inflammatory nor down right rude.

Plenty of people here consider ANYTHING BELOW A G-COLORED STONE absolutely lovely. No need to p*ss people you don't even know off!

Just a cautionary word - you're starting to make some people angry.

have fun tomorrow. take breaks, don''t get a headache.

look at the prettiness of the stones. remember there is chemistry involved too, not only physics.

don''t get hung up on the paper. you''re buying a diamond, not a paper.

I liked #2 on your list on paper. wonder what it is like in person?

The colored stones i like, I think it makes them look "antique", but they must be well cut.

ask to see a fluorescent stone. really cool.

Wow! So I saw the stones today and I chose #4, the K. I can''t believe it, and I must admit I''m not extremely sensitive to color, but I could not see a noticeable difference between the K and an H and even a G. Since I couldn''t see a difference I couldn''t justify the huge price difference and I thought the K looked amazing. I think the opposite 34 and 41 angles worked well together. I chose to put it in the following setting. Any comments?

Thank you to everyone for all of you help during this process! I hope I did well!

did you see it in daylight (not direct sun though - shade or cloudy day?
Did you see it in office fluoro lighting?

In halogen lighting the difference is not as easy to see.

Congrats'' Starry!

I think the diamond will look beautiful in the setting you chose!

Isn''t it amazing what an excellent cut K can look like!

Take care,

YAY! for another beautiful K!! I can''t wait to see the photos when it''s done! CONGRATS!

That is a beautiful setting! I envy you getting to go there and see all the settings in person!

But I''d agree with Garry, I hope you were able to take the diamond into natural light. When I went to Tiffany''s specifically to assess color and size, I couldn''t tell an F from an I because of the lighting. But you can if you are in regular daylight. That big security guard at Tiffany''s made me afraid to ask to see the stones in better light.

Some of you are making me nervous about the color. I did everything I could to convince myself that a K color wasn''t going to work but it looked so good to me. I wasn''t able to actually take it outside but I moved to as many different lighting conditions as I could (different lights in the store, by the window, etc, etc.). I looked at the diamonds for 2 hours and analyzed everything and I kept choosing the K. I''m crossing my fingers....

Starry!

So glad you went and checked these stones out for yourself. Again, YOU are the best judge of what color you''ll love....

And VERY excited that you have since fallen in love with a "K!"

Best of luck to you... and keep us updated!!!!!

I have a 34/41 also. I find it interesting that you got to see several variations and picked that one. They are not angles a lot seem to like, but they can make for a very bright, beautiful diamond! And that setting is gorgeous. Congrats!

Ellen, ironically I think one of the diamonds I am looking at has angles close to that. It worried me at first, but then I saw that it got 3 very highs on the brilliancescope and a 9.6 or 9.7 on the Isee2. So we really are eliminating some excellent diamonds by adhering to very narrow parameters.

Starry, color is very much an issue of personal preference. So if you saw the stone in varied lighting and loved it, then that''s all that counts! We can''t wait to see the finished ring!

Yes, it''s the Isee2 you''re going to look at with basically those angles. And it scored better than the one with more "ideal" numbers if I recall correctly. I think some shy away at the PA especially, as it is said that you begin to get some leakage at that point. But it does seem that coupled with the right CA, it works. Maybe it will just take some time for these stones to be recognized for their beauty.

All I can say is, my diamond scored very high, the IS was yummy, and the stone speaks for itself. It has left people speechless.

Starry I second not worrying about the colour if it looked good to you. Many do prefer the warmer colours for various reasons( myself included) and if you fall into that category as you might, you will find you can have a larger diamond for less money which is a big bonus! Have a search for SevensOne''s fabulous 2 carat K - it is truly stunning! Also Mrs Jam''s yummy K set in platinum - you are in very good company with your preference!
3.gif
Also Mara would love to find a K if I remember rightly for a pendant - and she knows her onions! I hope this helps!

(Sorry for the hijack, Starry..except we are talking about stones very similar to yours!)

Ellen, yes, when I went back and looked at the info on the Isee2, I realized it was performing visually as good or better than the other stone (this must be true for Starry, too!). I got locked into the narrow number thing myself just because it was easy, but I have to remind myself that I am letting Jonathan''s expertise and eyes choose for me. I trust him. So I think the only issue with these two diamonds will be size and there may or may not be a discernable difference in color. Jon said he doesn''t see it, but one of the ladies that works for him did pick the one that was slightly higher in color. Remind me again the color of yours...was it G?

Yes ds, mine''s a G. Unless you are very color sensitive, I can''t imagine the H would make much of a difference in that diamond, being cut so well.

Okay, thanks a lot! he has these two H''s and he also has 2 F''s in the 1.3 range, but no G''s at all. So I''m trying the H''s in hopes that they will work! I''ll have to bribe my daughter to help me take pictures, but watch for me to post on Wed.! (It is a very good thing I don''t work in the summer!)

ds, I look forward to seeing your posts! And hope Starry post pics as well!

hey all! Thanks for all of your help. And no need to worry about the hijack, I appreciate the discussion. The 34/41 combination is interesting and I was comparing to several combinations that supposedly looked better. I tried to follow everyone''s advice and go with the stone that "speaks" to me, in this case it was the K. Quite frankly, dimend Scaasi has a lifetime upgrade so if I decide it''s not what I want, or my gf decides it''s not what she wants we can change it to something else. But I loved the stone and I was ready to get this process underway. The diamond scores a 1.4 on the HCA and I thought it looked great.

I will definitely post pics for you all (assuming I can figure out how), it''s the least I can do after all of you assistance!

Starry, if you got the one that spoke to you, you got the right one.

Can''t wait to see pics, and good luck!

p.s. Belle posted a great "how to" on posting pics in FAQ''s.
