This is a Toby Reinhardt setting. Would it be strange to have a split shank with the traps?

I''m just thinking about this, nothing going yet. (when has there been)

Whoa, all these views and no responses.

My fault I didn''t say the center stone would be an EC.

hi ann. honestly, I just don''t know. It might work but without seing a picture it''s hard to say. my first reaction is it might be a little too much going on for one ring, but that''s also my taste which I prefer designs that are simple.

Hi Ann. Interesting idea but I concur with MrsS that there might be a little too much going on with a halo, and trap sides and split shank. Would the traps be haloed too?

At first glance, it looks to me that if you have the halo and the traps the split shank would start splitting back so far that you wouldn''t really see alot of it. I love the stone with the traps - but it sort of seems like you''d have to do the traps or the halo but not both. Hope that makes sense - my guess is that''s not what you were wanting to hear but just my take on it.

Sometimes less is more. Sounds like you like a lot of different parts of rings & want to combine 'em into something fab. Don't think this particular combo is fab.

Coco Chanel said put on all your jewelry, stand in front of a mirror and take something off.

Same here: something's gotta give.

ETA: I think what's throwing me off the most is the dichotomy of the angular step cut EC & Traps with the CURVE of the split shank. I also don't really like EC's with that kind of encrusted-looking pave halo. I think the Tiffany Legacy type is a little cleaner, less globby.

Could you do it?? Yes, but I wouldn''t if I were you. Too much going on there and something will get lost in the translation. Pick one, a nice stone with trap sides. Or if you love a halo do that but not both. I''m all about sleek elegance. In this case as Deco said less is more.

Yeah, there is a lot going on, I agree.

I love BlingDiva''s avatar -

I have always been attracted to Beaudry type settings with all the extras, like halos and side stones. But I saw this setting in a case (couldn''t try on, mgr. had the key and was out of the store, duh) and my imagination started cranking.

I love traps, step and brillant, but large ones that run almost the entire length of the center stone. Now that I know can be too much!

I think it is completely doable but not sure about the split shank. Maybe you can just have a reg. shank with 2pt.ers or something like that. I have an octag. halo with emerald cut baguettes on the side that I why it isn''t hard for my to imagine.

I designed my ring from about 4 rings that gave me inspiration. Keep up with the pics..use your photoshop to remove pieces of this ring and attach maybe a pic of a trap...

I will check back to see if you add any more pics

Hi! If you want the split shank with the trapezoids, you would have to have your center stone & the trapezoids set very high in order to see the shank. It might not be a safe setting for the stones.

Ann i think in jewelry too much is a "relative imperative", depends on the artist.
Just in case i made a photoshop for you.

Yeah, the photoshop pic bears this out.
I mean, sure you can do it, and if you like it, then, you are set! (bad pun, sorry)

But it doesn''t have the impact of a split shank with a solitaire or a smaller haloed center stone.

I am sure it will be lovely, in an ornate baroque sort of way.

PS - thanks for the much improved photoshopped picture.

It certainly helps to see it better.

Yes, it is a lot. Maybe a 3-sided shank, princess on top, rb''s on the sides!
Still too much?

I think the mockup looks pretty darn good. If you''re into the Beaudry-esque look. Can be a bit much for some people and not for others. I would have concurred you probably wouldn''t be able to get away with the split shank and the traps, but you might be able to.

How about pears instead of rb''s?
