So glad to see what used to be treated as a feral cat coming up to me to give me head bonks and cuddles this morning at the cat sanctuary where I volunteer.

He was entire when he was hit by a vehicle and was taken to the vets. Apparently he would hiss and scratched, and the staff had to wear gauntlets to protect themselves. When he was operated to fix his injuries, he was castrated at the same time.

The vets asked the owner of the cat sanctuary if she would take him in, and she did, and kept him isolated in a pen where a FIV kitty used to lived and died recently.

Everyone took precautions, as forewarned by the vets, no direct eye contact, low voice, kept our distance etc. etc... Slowly and surely, this beautiful ginger tabby kitty, a British short hair of some sort I believe, started to warm to people. Eventually he was taken into the conservatory to stay with other kitties in the sanctuary, with no reported issue of fights or anything.

Today was the first time he came up to me voluntarily, to give me head bonks and cuddles.

He is completely transformed in just over a month. To this day, I am certain he was deliberately left behind by his previous owners, and had to fend for himself after being kept in a life of luxury, and got very angry in the process.

He is probably my second favourite kitty at the sanctuary, after a very affectionate old boy that is 19yo living his last remaining days in a happy and loving environment. :))

They cheered me up today (cats do all the time) after discovering one of the kitties in the pen that I looked after had died a couple of days ago. The remaining cats were notably more quiet and subdued, probably missing their friends. I have never seen the cat that had died as apparently it was very nervous and dislike people. :((

Thanks for sharing. We have many happy stories like this at the animal rescue groups here. Amazing stories. Ferals turned friendly because in truth they were not truly feral to begin with...and all they need is a chance. A chance at a happy life by being adopted into a loving home!

@dk168 I am so sorry for the loss of that sweet little kitten. :(
You are making a difference and for a short time that kitten knew love. That is something.

I have never seen it as it was usually hiding under the bed. I just knew of its existence. I could feel the other cats were missing their friend today though, very sad, bless them.

My own cat was a rescue and I am her second mum. She was rehomed after her first family could not keep her. I wish I could have more cats, however, I just know she will disapprove. She can just about tolerate the dog!:bigsmile:

I understand. I look at it this way. All our animals were/are rescues. We gave them a chance for a happy life. So they have to deal with their siblings. They deserve a loving and safe home too. For better or worse. Right now we’re working on it re peace and harmony with the addition of our new rescue cats. Fingers crossed.

Wish we could save them all.

@missy, I wish I could save and do more!

My Hershey is an (ex) feral cat that no one wanted to offer a home to and while she will never be a lap cat she is extremely loving and snuggles in as close she can next to me for cuddles! :kiss2:
Oh and she falls asleep right in the middle of our rug in the front room on her back and refuses to move for anyone! :lol-2:

Tibby the now house/bed cat took many months to be able to touch
now he sits on me at every possible opertunity and sleeps by my pillow

i wonder if he wasn't so much feral as someone's unwanted kitten, it just took him time and alot of kindness to remember
i just want him to forget what it was like to be so hungry

As far as I am aware, he will stay with the other cats at the sanctuary. Currently he is kept indoors with other cats in a massive conservatory, and he is loving it.

well that's still happily ever after :appl:
here is Tibby enjoying the sun just before (he has an understandable 'thing' right now where he won't go around to the open back door because the big tree he usually lies under is full of beees)
anyway i opened the front door and in he came
he often has one leg lying off the side

Lucky sometimes gets accompanied by a cat during our morning walks. Cat is keen on being Lucky's friend. Lucky is like "do I know you?" at first. Now she seems to accept the company. HOWEVER, will not accept kitty rubs though.Cat will NOT come up to me at all.

Cats are interesting animals.
