I have switched my birthcontrol yet again

. Now I am on Seasonale, and have been for just 2 weeks. And now I am heavily spotting. Is that normal? Is this just because I have switched?

I just started taking Jolessa (generic) and I''ve had no problems. AF is due this week and no signs yet. I did get on it though from Mircette so maybe that''s why you''re spotting and I never did

Is the Seasonale a lower dose than your previous BC because that can cause spotting too.

i HATED Seasonale. It never ended up making me skip any periods. Instead I would have my period for weeks at a time. My Dr. at the time told me to just give it some more time, but after a year I said forget it. I think it''s one of those things that just doesn''t work for everyone. My understanding is that most women will experience some spotting before it actually starts making them skip though.

Here's what the Seasonale website says:

While you get the convenience of 4 periods a year with SEASONALE®, you are also more likely to have spotting and breakthrough bleeding (which varies from slight spotting to a flow much like a regular period) than with a 28-day birth control pill. This is common and should decrease over time. During the first year, total bleeding days are similar to a traditional Pill.

I'd give it a little time since it's just been two weeks.

I had the same negative experience

Then, I decided to get the copper IUD and I love it!!! All my problems are solved now.

I''ve been on Seasonale for 2+ years now. I started on Seasonale brand name. Didn''t have any problems with spotting. I''ve been on the Jolessa & the Quasense (spelling?) generic and haven''t had spotting on those. I love it and love having only 4 periods a year. My doctor told me that some women just love it and some women just hate it. I''d give it a few months and see how you feel about it.

Thanks ladies. I will definately stick with it for a while, but just wanted some thoughts. Really hoping this tapers off and I find an answer soon!!!!

Usually LOTS of breakthrough bleeding with Seasonale, LG. It's the biggest complaint associated with it. If you can stick with it for awhile though, its should subside. And once it does, Im sure you will like it alot!!!!!

LitChick, I was on Seasonale (and later the Jolessa generic), and loved it. I did have some spotting, similar to what you''re dealing with, until my body got used to it. I think it took a couple months, so two weeks is definitely not long enough for you to be out of the woods yet. BTW, the only reason I stopped taking Seasonale is because I switched to Lybrel (which gives you zero periods, ever). I''ve had success with the Lybrel also. Good luck!

Love Seasonale but it is not for everyone. My SIL had break through bleeding the whole time she was on it. I have NEVER had an issue.

I have also been on Jolessa for over 2 years and I absolutely love it. I started out on Seasonale and never got over the spotting, so I switched to Jolessa (generic) and haven''t had any problems since.

LitigatorChick, I think it took a couple of months before the spotting stopping for me...I definitely think it''s worth hanging in there! Good luck to you.

I just seen a commercial for Seasonale (never heard of it before today), even though I have no use for birth control, it makes me ALMOST want to take it, to avoid periods every month. A few a year would be great, but then again, with all the side effects that could occur, maybe not!!

Now, I don''t wish to frighten you, but . . . these pills are the reason I quit bc pills. I went from Loestrin (which was doing just fine) to this stuff. Immediately I started bleeding. Heavy. All the time. 45 straight days. Pain, cramping, backaches, headaches, nausea; you name the problem, I was plagued with it. I have never had this horrible a time, before or since; and I''ve been cycling since age 11.

I had to get off it and stay off it for about 3 additional months before I was back to normal.

So much for the pill that was going to lessen/shorten/eliminate periods. Uh huh.

don''t want to be a downer but just to share my experience with this drug, i took it for 2 months and threw up every single day. mostly multiple times a day. my doc told me to wait out one pack, but the final draw for me was the first morning i felt almost better, i had the most delicious, fresh veggie sandwich, and then i puked it right up. then i went off it and bled for 2 weeks.

if you want to lose weight and get really toned abs though (puking is a workout!), i would definitely recommend the stuff

btw, my next doc told me that seasonale is basically a repackaging of one of the first BCPs on the market. these freaky synthetic hormones are old news and old medicine.
