Hello!

I have been searching for the best diamond i can get with a very limited budget of $1,000. I'm searching for a princess cut diamond that will be set on a white gold solitaire ring. From what i've read around the web it seems that james allen is one of the best websites to buy rings since it has a diamond viewer. Because my budget is so low I'm looking for the best .5 carat diamond i can possibly get and found some possible candidates from james allen:
1) http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.50-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-231067
2) http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.54-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-254186
3) http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.50-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-sku-224739
4) http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.54-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-245851
5) http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.50-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-sku-327295
6) http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.50-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-245902

If anyone could really let me know which one they think is the best and the most "bang" for a .5 carat diamond I would really really appreciate it! I am driving myself mad trying to find the best and I cant decide which is the best. Thank you!!!

At least one is unavailable--have you already requested ASET's for any of these? Or is this an initial filter before requesting?

The one thats unavailable is the one i reserved. I thought it was the best overall but im unsure. If any other one is better then ill just purchase that one, the reserve is only for 24 either way.

The one you reserved is not going to be the best. You must look at the diameter measurements. The thick girdle is making that stone have a smaller diameter, so it will look smaller than some of the others. I'll try to look at the others.

So definitely have medium sized girdle or thin one? This is because it increases the weight and thus makes it smaller while retaining the carat weight right?

A thick girdle or greater depth means there is weight hiding in those areas, and it often makes the diamond face up smaller. Thin, medium, and slightly thick are all fine. I would also only look for very good or excellent for polish and symmetry.

Of the ones you listed, only #2, 3, and 5 would be worth pursuing. You'd need ASET images on them as one or more of them might not be acceptable. I honestly did not see any others that I liked.

Got it! Thank you so much for your time! :))

Two questions for you.

Does it have to be a princess?

Does it have to be new or would you consider preowned?

Princess is my girlfriends favorite cut so i'm trying to see what my choices are for that cut; want to give her something that i know for sure she will like (even though it feels like rounds are a lot easier to find and look bigger than princess). Honestly, I dont mind preowned as long as it looks relatively new. This ring will be a modest one but in some years i'd like to buy her something much bigger and nicer to replace the one i'm deciding on now (recent college graduate, so I don't have that high of a budget for the ring). If i have to increase the budget for the diamond then I will as long as its less than $2,000.

theres no reason to increase your budget if you aren't comfortable. I just wasn't sure if she wold take an asscher (also square ) or a marquise and pears (also pointy and looks bigger)

how much were you originally willing to spend with the setting, ill look at preowned things see what i can find. Like i say, say a budget you're comfortable with, then we'll just find the best thing in that budget.

I have a budget of $500 for the setting since i didn't mind if it was 14k gold (so around $1,500 total for the ring). I was thinking of a solitaire setting and since its going to have a smaller stone a thin band would help to enhance the diamond. Thank you for your help! I'll start looking at preowned as well

ok, well i wouldn't use 1/3 your budget for the setting.

Of james allen. I like this

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.56-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-355256 (ask if theres any referral or pricescope "preferred customer" discount to bring it closer to exactly 1500)
and this

I had that setting myself for a while, it very cheap, but it was very lovely in person

Ill look around too though

this is a K, but would leave you enough for a very nice setting, so Im going to pass it along

you could even afford this designer one and ask them to set the stone kite set ( crazy, i know  )

The first two you suggested are beautiful and seem to be in a similar price range, not sure which one would be the best ! To me it's interesting how the ring frame for the james allen ring is so much cheaper than the brain gavin one. Maybe i can buy the setting from one site and buy the diamond from another then have someone set it for me?

People do that! Problem is, you'll have to pay to insure it while its being set in case the 3rd party person setting it chips it. You'll have to pay for someone to set the stone too. I don't think it would save you money if you include those things in the cost.

The Brian Gavin setting I posted is more expensive but also I posted a nicer one because it was in your budget. They also have a basic setting.

I think the extra few hundred for the first Brian Gavin setting I originally posted is worth it, BUT if you were stretching to get to 1500, this would put you closer to 1100

Which is better? I mean, the K is cheaper, the F is noticeably whiter.... I would read up on both websites about their upgrade policies. If you plan to upgrade in a few years, it would be nice to understand the upgrade policies

I own a K, and i put a lot of stock into quality settings too, so if It was me, id probably go with the BG $590 setting and the K. BUT, thats assuming your budget is 1500, and that you are comfortable with a K.

any news?
