Just started lurking around here today. I am looking to purchase a RB stone, somewhere around 1.0 carat give or take. I have been reading from everyone the importance of Cut, am glad I found the site before I purchased a ring from bluenile, I am now searching with the pricescope search limiting it to search more around the quality cut. I would still like a color around the E-F, and VS1-SI1 I know most around here say you dont have to have that. I am looking to spend under $6k. I have already purchased the custom band and am having it made as we speak. Here are one or two I found. Any other good things to be looking for.

Thoughts opinions? I take kindly to any advice, since I am spending what to me is big bucks ($$$$) I want to do it right the first time. I know my soon to be fiance and i both prefer quality, this is a one time purchase not a wait and upgrade later.

reposting links so they work

I like the Good Old Gold stone best of the 3 you listed; I would find out if it is eye clean

I agree, not loving the angles on the other two.

Just to throw it out there, this one is a bit bigger. You would need to check on eyecleanliness and the strong flo. Feel free to ignore!

Not sure how I feel about strong Flo yet. I know its said that if eye-clean it can enhance the whiteness but is that needed at an F.

What range of angles should I be looking for in a Round Brilliant? I am so new at this and want to do it right the first time. Any guide that would give a better range of what to look for?

Range for ideal cut according to AGA, http://diamonds.pricescope.com/round.asp

Depth% : 58 - 62.3, Table% : 53- 58, crown angle: 34 - 34.7.

Usually, just input the values to HCA, https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp, and it will weed out the bad performers.

Strong Flo usually is not visible unless in the present of ultra-violet light, without that, the stone is colorless.

Exactly what I was looking for thanks Stone-Cold11. I am going to go to my custom jeweler this weekend and see what kind of prices he will give me on the stone, since I am already getting the ring from him. See if its worth going through him or buying from pricescope pricer.

You might find these numbers easy to work from, these proportions should help you find a well cut stone.

depth - 60 - 62% - although my personal preference is to allow up to 62.4%
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above

note - with crown and pavilion angles at the shallower ends ( CA 34- PA 40.6) and steeper ( CA 35- PA 41) check to make sure these angles complement in that particular diamond - eyeballs, Idealscope, trusted vendor input - check as appropriate!

Here is the diamond I found with my Jeweler He will offer me a discount to do the diamond and ring through him. I am still debating based upon the discount doesnt really make up for the tax difference and I like GoodoldGolds upgrade policy. What do you guys think about this diamond?
The diamond is an EGL USA (Los Angeles) certified .91 ct. diamond with the following grades and proportions
Clarity: SI-1
Color: G
U.V. Florescence: None
Cut Grade: EGL Ideal Plus (Hearts and Arrows) Total Depth Percentage: 59.2% Table Percentage: 58% Crown Angle: 33.0° Crown Height: 13.5% Pavilion Angle: 40.3° Pavilion Depth Percentage: 42.2% Girdle Thickness: 1.1% to 1.9%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Culet Size: None

The only inclusion will be covered by a prong. It is very eye clean and looked beautiful in person.

On the HCA, it is in the pendant, ear-ring range, so it doesn''t look that good on close up as most of the light return from this stone will be coming from behind the observer and thus head shadow will significantly lower the light return of this stone. Did you look at it outside the showroom, away from direct light source?

No i did not just in the show room. So that is a no on that stone then, eh? My original price range is a bit lower. I am trying to stay under $4700 with this economic downturn. So I know to get the quality of stone I am looking for I will have to go smaller and after searching a bit more I also see I am willing to go to a G color, just not sure what to do.

If you don't want fluorescence then the E might be a good diamond for you, check it is eyeclean to your standards. Those are both gorgeous diamonds, with the med fluorescence you might only notice it slightly in some lights as a slight bluish tint to the diamond which many of us find extremely beautiful. But it is a matter of preference.

Both are very beautiful stones. I like fluor, so I am biased towards that stone. :P
