I am so scared of getting ripped off. I have been looking at diamonds in the Amarillo Tx area. The prices seem to very alot. One store has a 1.5,G,SI2 for $16,400 and now my little hometown store called and said Quoted prices for a 1.59, F, SI2 at $7600. Both are certified and non-enhanced. Should I be wary of the lower priced diamond? He told me he could have several with my specifications sent in for me to see. He explained about enhanced diamonds and ones without certification. He said certification adds $500 to $1000 more to the price. He is a IJO master jeweler. He says that his prices are better because he doesn''t have much overhead. Yet he can still make a small profit. Are the prices too good? He is the only jewler in our small town. It has been in business for 2 generations. Should I be wary?

Sure, always be wary! The certs need to be GIA or AGS. You want GIA EXcellent or AGS 0 (Ideal) for a round. You can do price comparisons here:

Put in excellent-excellent for cut and check only GIA and AGS for labs. Those are the two most reliable labs.

I just saw in another thread that someone purchased a top quality cut 1.5 F SI2 with an AGS Ideal cert. Here''s the price:

You might also want to make note of the angles and other measurements since this is a nice example of a well cut stone. The stone you referenced at $7600 likely does not have GIA or AGS grading which means you wouldn''t know what you were really getting. In addition, the other stone is priced WAY too high!
