I''ve not posted much on here but had to share. I went engagement ring shopping with my boyfriend of 3 years for the first time in my life today at a local and reputable B&M store I really trust. I have been in the market for a 1.5 carat-ish pear shaped solitaire in the price range of $6000-6500.

The stone I found was 1.5 carat, ideal cut, G color, I1 pearwith I think class I dimensions and the perfect L-W ratio for me (9.74 mm x 6.67 mm).

The stone was beautiful and sparkly and HUGE IMO and I was so excited and think I''ve found the right stone. Do you guys think the I1 grading is okay is my main question. The inclusion is a relatively large feather in the center of the stone which is clearly visible under the 10x scope I viewed today but appears perfectly eye-clean to the seller and most definitely to myself. I am no diamond conniseur so am certainly not picky as long as it looks good face up to the eye! BTW this is GIA grading. Also the woman thought since the feather was in the center of the stone and not near the surface or tip of the pear the structural integrity was not compromised.

I''ve read alot on the boards re: I1 and I think it is ok - just wanted to see if anyone had any opinions/thoughts. Hopefully I will have some pictures to share in a few months

Oh also, I forgot - price for stone is $6265. Comments on the value of that stone also much appreciated.

And could such a stone with a feather be cleaned ultrasonically?

Get it appraised by an independent appraiser.

Definitely get it appraised if you decide to go with it.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I have seen a couple of gorgeous, eye clean I1 stones on here recently. It''s definitely made me re-think I1 stones!

I had thought of that. How does that work? Must you hire someone to come with you to this store in question - and how do you find someone? Please excuse my ignorance. :)

hmm, you may have to purchase the stone, and then if it doesn''t pan out with the appraiser, just return it, make sure you read their return policy.

thanks!! that''s perfect, i found an appraisal company in our area. i do think that is correct, you would have to purchase the ring then appraise; the store my boyfriend would go to does have a 30-day return policy. thanks for all the help!

I am a big fan of eyeclean I1 stones, so if you like this one also take it outside away from the store lights to see how it looks, inclusions can jump out in some lights and not in others.

Ditto on seeing a couple of gorgeous, eye clean I1 stones on here recently.

I''ve always been an inclusion snob... wouldn''t ever consider an I1 stone for myself. Then, one day I tried on a ring featuring a gorgeous GIA I1... far better than many SI2s I''ve seen. It was exquisitely cut, and totally eye clean. Today, I''m sorry that I didn''t snag it. I agree, you need an independent appraisal. Also, make sure you have a copy of the return policy in writing and read any and all fine print!
