SARS Antibodies interpretation.

I know I should know this but I don't.
Our endocrinologist tested us last week when he did lots of other blood tests. He wasn't sure he would have enough blood to do it but it turned out he did.

Any help in interpreting the results is appreciated. All I know is he said I am protected and Greg less so.

My SARS antibodies results are 1934 and Greg's results are 581.4.

Can anyone tell me what this means exactly in terms of protection against Covid?

Has anyone else had them tested and what were your results?
Is it changing your future vaccination plans?

@missy Do you know which test you had?
My husband and I both had the SARS-CoV-2 Semi-Quantitative Total Antibody test from LabCorp. The lab results show the Reference Range: <0.8 is Negative and then it measures up to 2500.
We both tested positive for antibodies, but my results came back at 43.3 and my husbands came back at >2500. He had both of his Pfizer shots in April, I only had one dose of Pfizer in April. I ended up feeling pretty unwell the month following my first shot and had a swollen gland in my neck. After counseling with my doctor, he thought I would be okay with just the one dose since it appeared I had a robust immune system response. That was before Delta came along.
From what I understand, they are still trying to find out exactly what the antibody test mean in relation to protection. I am still glad I had the test done and with my number being so low, I did get my second shot today. I plan to have the Labcorp test done again in a month. I am a curious person and want to see if my number goes up.
 
Yes, I’ve just read elsewhere that there’s no agreed standard yet for the antibody tests, so no one really knows. I’m guessing that the more antibodies, the better, though.

Glad you were able to get your second dose. We had the SARS COV2 AB Total Spike Semi QN from Quest labs. Similar reference range (for the bottom number) as your lab results from Lab Corp. Thanks for weighing in.

Yes I’ve read that too. I guess in time we will know more as with all things related to the pandemic. Thanks for replying.
 
One of our kids was tested for the antibodies (she got both pfizer shots) because she is on a medication that is immuno-suppressing. We were told that she tested positive, but we had to ask for the actual results. When we pressed to understand what the results meant, we got no response. A friend who is a doctor told my husband that beyond knowing she is positive, there isn't anything more qualitative that they can determine from them. He said the same results in two different people can mean different things, what matters is that she's positive.

I was bummed because I thought the results could help us to know *how* well-protected she is (or is not), however that doesn't appear to be the case. She'll be getting the third shot that is approved for immunosuppressed, especially since she will be in-person for school this year (she was remote last year) and I'm sure she can use all the protection she can get.

Antibodies are expected to decrease overtime.
The rate of decay varies from individual to individual.

Layman's take with just enough education to be dangerous :lol: :
I take any result of 'antibody tests' cautiously, because I'm not sure what, if any, truly long term protectives it provides. It's only looking at first wave antibody response and the testing itself isn't sensitive enough. It could not 'see' immune response from vaccines as well as it will for natural immune responses. It also can't discern type and immunity is a complex machine- it's not just about being infected but how that infection is mitigated and tests available don't provide that answer.
We also don't know what those threshold levels need to be. There is no consensus. It's not a given that a number denotes more/less protected because there isn't a guarantee that all are neutralizing antibodies.
It's all a bit of a crapshoot.

*I'm very interested in what the data will show us of bone marrow plasma cells and specific B and T cell memory providing broad spectrum/long term response. As of now, B and T look dependent on individual immune capability to naturally produce adequate numbers.

I didn’t get a second antibody test, but have been thinking about doing it soon since I’m due for the third shot. I’d do it mostly out of curiosity to see what the numbers look like compared to last time.

I got my second antibody test...the SARS total spike protein AB test and it is still 2500.
Though negative with two of the specific tests and 1500 on the other.
I don't really know how/if it translates to real life but I do know I do not plan on getting another booster because so far my booster seems to be holding steady. Though I cannot definitively state state that since the interpretation is up in the air.

Thank you @missy…I’m so happy yours is so high. I got mine yesterday afternoon..I will be thrilled with even a quarter of your amount. I should get the results today or tomorrow…Fingers crossed…I hope Greg’s results are great this time. When was his last shot? Mine was a little over five months ago. I expect it to be low..I just hope it’s not zero. If I have some then I’ll guess that I had a higher number but it’s come down..

I think his last shot was December...I made him get another one with the blessing of our physician as his antibodies were zero with the booster shot 3 months after that was given and tested. So we don't know if this last one took or not...if he is zero again we are leaving it be so I guess either way he is not getting another. But I just wanted to know.

I hope yours shows antibodies Joanne. Fingers crossed!

I hope Greg mounted a strong response with the last one...I know if I have zero this time it will be a hard decision for me to get another one now. I would hope that a second booster would come out soon...I’m sort of waiting for that. What I do know is I will definitely get another antibody test after another shot to see if the vaccines are working for me. I know the experts say that your T and B cells also protect you…but I think the number of antibodies are a good indicator about how well the vaccine worked for us.
