when she understands the issues.

I think that the Republican strategy of creating really low expectations for her debate will work in her favor, because then she will exceed everyone''s expectations.

This is a link which has the entire video of the Alaska Governer''s Debate in 2006. It''s long. It''s the full 1 1/2 hours. It''s worth watching it to see Sarah Palin''s debate ability. There is a 10 minute excerpt on YouTube that covers some hot topics such as abortion, domestic partner benefits, and doctor assisted suicide. These issues come early in the debate, within the first 5 minutes, so I urge those who are interested... to watch the entire debate. The other two candidates consisted of the incumbent Republican Governer and an Independent.

Alaska Governor''s Debate 2006

The first 15 minutes will suck you in....

Maybe "good" wasn''t the best choice of words. Strong and confident debater for sure.

Please try not to get sidetracked by her views, which many will agree with and many will disagree with, but her performance is strong.

Thanks for posting. I was actually going to post in one of the other threads that I think the interview was a great way of convincing people to underestimate her and as a result she''d blow us out of the water come Thursday.

I doubt it...I don''t think the McCain camp or Palin herself is that savvy. I think she''s going to get crushed, personally! (Obviously I also hope that, but I still think it''s going to happen and it''s going to be a train wreck! Can''t wait!)

Moon, I am listening to the full debate as I type this, and I have to say, she is not the Sarah Palin of the Katie Couric interview. When she knows her subject, she has the ability to articulate it. She is also not afraid of being made fun of or "mocked".

ETA::: Based on the first 30 minutes, I don't understand how she made it into office, but then again, I am just getting into the local issues. Her personal issues on the hot topics will be underscored since they were at the beginning. She also clarifies that they are her "personal" views but she would follow law and ballot box votes.

D'oH 40% high school dropout rate for the state....

CORRECTION: I was wrong....she isn't debating with the former Rep Governor. It's the Democrat and Ind she was running against in the general election....

Yeah well I don''t think she''s the best from what I watched of it (I kept fast fwd to her responses). But she is much better than the "idiot" that appeared before my screen in the Katie Couric interview. I don''t think she''s stupid, per se, I think she''s just cramming way too much information in a short time into her brain. Her ability to think on her own, to hell, even fully hear and comprehend the question being ask, has gone to the wayside. She''s struggling so hard to remember talking points that she can''t focus, and that''s just bad. It indicates to me that she has spent little to no time learning about these issues while she has been an elected official. This disturbs me more than anything because regardless of where you are mayor or governor in this country, I hope you would pay attention to both national and international issues that would obviously effect you and those that you serve. Scarier is how Bush-like she is in refusing to admit she''s ignorant about issues while continuing to be so forceful and decisive!! That''s part of what got us into this mess!!!

FI and I were talking last night and we both had the same feelings toward McCain (except FI still has them and I now do less so). We both like the guy, we both thought that considering his past experiences with his party, AND his age, that once in office, he simply would not care about only pleasing his party. Though we are both Obama supporters, neither of us would mind a McCain Presidency. I was actually happy that he was who the Dem would be up against. But his choice of Palin ruined it. I was really hoping that regardless of the things I disagreed with her on, she''d be competent and perhaps truly more like McCain. I just don''t see it and now, for the first time during this whole campaign, I''m really fearful of the outcome.

There is a difference though, to actually having to LOOK (dare I even say the word...STARE) into the eyes of someone who is grilling you, versus talking basically to an audience that you may not even be able to see from footlights in your eyes. MUCH more disconcerting face to face, and harder to dance around what you really think.

The danger she and McCain face with her acting like a tongue-tied teenager with no explanation for anything in the interviews, and then coming out full-force as a star debater on every subject (highly unlikely in my book) is that she could be perceived in retrospect as dishonest when asked serious questions in a serious interview.

*grin*

Well, this debate was moderated by a fellow who couldn''t keep the independent candidate from rebutting out of turn, so she will be in a very different situation. Palin simply does not answer the 15 sec questions, she just gets her soundbite in (weird format for debate). As Miracles said, do go to minute 12. Palin clarifies her position on abortion...and eventually makes it clear that if her underage daughter was raped, Sarah would choose life. The other candidates come across as so human, expressing emotion about how upset they would be about their child being raped and how they eventually would discuss options with her. Palin looks like a robot with eyelashes. But I am not unbiased.

Miracles, thank you for posting this. Nice to see her speaking like a human, but she described the Valley as progressive...not sure. I see why she refused to move to the capitol and made the machinery of the nation travel to her in the valley.

ETA: man she is knowledgeable on bag limits (how many woodland creatures you can kill and take home to feed your family), fingers crossed that this does not come up in the debate TH. tuned out at 35min. Well done Miracles.
