Hello all -

An update form a month or so ago...I had my sapphire (which had 2 chips in it) polished. We also had a synthetic made which I wear a lot instead of doing the same thing again to the real one. Anyway - the stone doesn''t look the same. It had a brillance and scintillation to it before. The color was a vivid blue and you could see blue adn sparkles from every angle - but not anymore. It isn''t bad, but it just doesn''t have the same sparkly look...Suggestions? Which brings me to the second question - We are so dissapointed, we are considering getting another sapphire that has the qualities our had before - where can I purchase a blue sapphire, exceptional quality and cut - round - in the 2ct. range - at a reasonable price. I''m not into the games and $$$ of B&M''s......

Any help would be appreciated -

Here are a few online places that I know of:

Pala Gems -- however, they deal with the trade only, so you may have to contact their retail arm, Collector's Fine Jewelry to be able to access to Pala's inventory.

Cherrypicked -- they deal with the public. The provide a wealth of information to the stones displayed on their site.

Walter Arnstein -- seems to have a pretty good selection of very nice quality sapphires. As far as I know, they also deal with the public.

Precious Gemstones -- specializes in Burma stones, I think. They cater to the collector market.

Additionally, there are posters on this board who can also help you find the stones they're looking for. The ones that come to mind right now are Gary from DiamondExpert and Wink, and I'm sure there are others.

Anyway, good luck with your search!

Thank you for the kind works Katbadness.

Something to consider - if your sapphire was vivid blue before and a poor repair job made it ugly, consider getting a better repair job

.

Of the folks katbadness mentioned, Arnstein advertises a cutting relationship with folks they say are top-notch and who I expect would do a more traditional style, and Wink has a relationship with a guy who does concave faceting for a more modern look.
