Safest way to send jewelry?

My husband''s going down to Cali next week and I''m having him send a bezel diamond necklace to BGD for repair. What''s the safest way to send it to them? I''ve never shipped anything to/from the US, so I''m absolutely clueless. Figured you PS ladies might be of help!

USPS registered mail is supposed to be the safest way to send jewelry. It takes longer but it's the most secure.
