?

I am going to buy an engagement ring, and my girl friend is a little fantasy about Cartier. My budget is not huge so I look into some of the pre-owned ring in Ebay.

Here is some of the information of the ring, it is said to be an exhibition item.

Diamond Weight: 0.90 Ct
Diamond Cut: Round brilliant
Diamond Color: F
Diamond Clarity: VS1
Gram Weight: 4.30 grams
Metal Type: Platinum
Treatment: None
Condition: Excellent
Size: 6 (Re-sizable)
Box And Papers: Gift box and GIA Certificate will be provided

Do you thing is safe to buy a pre-own ring in Ebay? Does anyone familiar with the Cartier brand and can tell me other than a GIA certificate, what else should I check to see if the ring is authentic?

Thank you.

I really depends on the listing and the buyer. But ebay buyer protection is pretty good. You just have to be aware of how it works-- you need actual misrepresentation. So get a good return policy. No questions asked, at least three days. And take it to Cartier immediately for verification.

Is there some thing like a Cartier Certificate for their product or the GIA certificate is good enough?

The closet Cartier store is 6 hours away from where I live, I want to make sure I can get everything necessary from the seller before I roll into the Cartier store. And I heard that it cost $1500 to get a Cartier certificate (or a id) if the original one is lost. Is it true?

Call Cartier. You don't need the certificate unless you are reselling. What you need is a verification it's an original from them. Ask them if and what they charge for an authenticity check.

Wow that's a long drive, if you don't plan on making the trip then I'd be very sure to have an appraiser lined up that can verify that the stone matches all the paperwork, and is familiar with Cartier. I'm not sure of Cartier has a special inscription on their stones or not, or how you could tell if the original diamond had been removed and replaced with another stone with a corresponding certificate. Gypsy can probably answer if that was a possibility.
