I have delayed posting with the hope that things would work out. However, it is official. I no longer have my original e-ring setting.

After about 2-3 weeks of having my e-ring I noticed there were odd little black dimples on the shank. There was one little black dot when I recieved it but I wasn''t bothered. I loved the setting. BUT there were 6 of them 3 weeks later. So when we went to pick up the appraisal from GOG, I asked them what it was.

They thought it had to do with the platinum''s porosity. They believe something happened when it was resized. So they shipped it off to be laser soldered. On Tuesday we found out that it didn''t work and that the holes really couldn''t be fixed. So essentially my setting would always have the little black dots.

I was really upset. I pretty much sobbed over the whole thing for the first night. I tried to be unemotional about it and thought about it practically. Who knew if the ring would just be worse off later on? The value of the ring would also be lowered if we ever wanted to replace it through insurance because of the little holes.

GOG was really understanding. They offered to put the price of the original setting towards another one. They set aside settings that were similiar for me to try on. I contemplated keeping the ring despite the flaws. But I really wanted it to be *perfect* and in the end after mulling it over for 2-3 days I finally decided to go with another setting.

My fiance was very understanding and wanted me to just be happy with the new setting. We looked on GOG''s site together and decided on the Solasfera solitaire setting. This setting has a head and fluidity that was *very* similar to the original. He says he liked it second best only because he was really sold on the first.

GOG was fantastic about it. Sarah even apologized and said if she had known this would happen they would have never sold us that setting. I knew that it wasn''t GOG''s fault, and I said so. They even called in the Solasfera sample setting for me to try on the next day. I liked it alot and we went with that. They put a rush on it and instead of the normal 2 weeks, it''ll be in next Saturday.

BTW, when we saw our newly soldered setting they had changed the shank completely. It was all sharp edges and uncomfortable to put on. I noticed it immediately. The polishing job scratched up the band badly, and after seeing it in person, it solidified my decision to go with a new setting.

So...I guess that''s the end of my saga. I hope to be happy with this setting for a long time and will post pictures when we pick it up next Saturday.

Sad, but perhaps it was meant to be? I remember the thread discussing whether the thicker shank made the diamond look smaller. I''m sure you''ll love it in the Solasfera

It will be beautiful

Oh, I''m so sorry to hear you had to let that beautiful setting go, but the setting should be as perfect as your scrumptious stone so it was the right thing to do. It''s great that GOG was there for you all the way. I think the Solasfera setting is YUMMY!

Aw, that is too bad...I am sure that the new one will be just as pretty, though! I was a bit sentimental when I changed my original e-ring setting, but now that it has been re-set about a million times I am cool with it.

Ditto to both parts, check that, 3 parts

Sorry to hear that. I''m sure that your new ring will be stunning!

That''s a shame about your old setting

I''m glad, however, that the situation was handled quite well by GOG. Surely your new ring is going to be awesome!

That''s too bad, but am sure the new setting will be lovely. Nice to hear GOG was so accomodating.

I feel sad for you that you won''t have your original setting, but I am sure your new one will be lovely!

I can understand why you were so upset, I would have been very sad to if I knew I had to replace the setting of my e-ring. Is it possible that you can keep the old setting somehow? I mean, is the platinum bad? I''m wondering if GOG can melt down the platinum and make a band out of it or something...I don''t know if the problem would still be there, but it would be nice if you could somehow turn it into another piece since I know it''s sentimental.

I''m so sorry to hear about your old setting. It is definitely hard to switch once you''ve grown attached. However, i''m really glad that GOG has been understanding and you are getting a brand new lovely setting. I can''t wait to see pictures of your new ring!

You can''t melt down platinum like you can gold. I would think GOG would be returning that setting to the manufacturer to get their money back, too.

I think the new setting will be beautiful! Hopefully you will love it even more!
