A co-worker in our building was looking for a ruler, I happen to have the office one that I was using so I walked over to her office and gave it to her. After a day went by I still do not see it so I went to her and asked for it. She said "I gave it to Maria".

Dude, you got it from me and what planet''s common sense will lead you to think that giving it back to the office assistant is going to get it back to me automatically? Granted that this is a office ruler it was in my procession BECAUSE I WAS USING IT.

This person consistently shows inconsideration for others and is always talking down to people who disagrees with her. I hope she gets what she deserves sooner than later.

I''m really not trying to be a *****, but am I gathering correctly from your post that the ruler in question is not actually yours, but rather one that is used by the entire office? Because if so, I don''t see how you could be upset with her; unless you had specifically indicated to her that you wanted it returned to you after she used it?

Seriously?

*laughs to herself and shakes her head* be right back guys , i gotta run and get some popcorn quick, i have a feeling this will be an interesting thread haha

Hmm...maybe she didn''t return it to you because she figured you were finished with it, since you handed it over to her? And maybe the other person just needed the ruler, since it''s the office ruler?

I''ll be honest, it seems somewhat silly to be so upset over something like this...but apparently you have issues with this person that go deeper than this ruler incident.

I have to say...it''s just a ruler. And if I''m reading right, it wasn''t your ruler, it was the office ruler? Which she gave back to the office assistant? Well that seems kind of logical. I guess since you went over and gave it to her, she presumed you were finished with it? This doesn''t sound rude to me.

Milton Waddams: [talking on the phone] And I said, I don''t care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I''m, I''m quitting, I''m going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they''ve moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn''t bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it''s not okay because if they take my stapler then I''ll set the building on fire...

I don''t really see the problem.

Is it a special type of ruler? I was having an issue like that once and I went out and bought a glittery kid''s ruler that was personalized with my name on it and pink stars and hearts and things. It never went missing again.

Maybe that was her favorite ruler.

I personally like to name my office supplies. So, I'd have my undies in a bundle if someone stole Jackson. Or Claudia, too, for that matter.

Therein lies the problem though, it wasn''t HER ruler, it was the office ruler

Zhu, it''s OK . . . I think I understand. This is about WAAAAY more than the ruler, isn''t it?

There''s a person at my office who is UNBELIEVABLY inconsiderate. He literally commits about 20 random acts of rudeness every day. Sometimes, I''m OK with the first 19 things and I''m able to just let them slide. Then, Thing #20 is just IT!!! It may be a pretty minor infraction, but it''s the TWENTIETH DAMN THING he''s done to piss me off that day, so by that point I just want to SCREAM!!!!!

Here''s a thought....although it''s an ''office ruler'' maybe it was issued to her as in given to her by the supply dept and not part of some bin of rulers up for grabs. I''ve worked in an office where you were issued stuff for your personal use and therefore ''her'' ruler went missing.

Nah. You didn''t create this thread, so it probably wouldn''t blow up

Zhu: Was it an office ruler that belonged to you? That is, office stationery that you claimed? It it isn''t, then she might''ve just thought you were done with it. I can see how if you''re already annoyed with someone, every thing they do will bug you...been there, done that!

I think she may have been making the point that you were Bogarting the ruler. The office ruler.

"I believe you have my stapler."

But, she probably thought you were finished with it. If I were in that situation, I''d probably put an office ruler back in our supply cabinet.

I don''t get the irritation?

True.......but it could still be a special one.
And let's just stop and think - how does the ruler feel through all of this?

Ok, but in all seriousness, I think I get what Zhu's point is. I think this ruler was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

ROFL!!!!!!
You guys are making me laugh!

I thought the same thing... maybe it''s a mutual passive aggressive fling they''re having and so a small thing is like throwing the gauntlet!

Of course there is more to it. She is the nastiest human being I know and I always avoided her like a plague. Today I overheard that she was looking for a ruler, even though I was still using it for the day I decided to be kind to her so I handed to her to use even though I was not done. Several hours later I went to see if she still had it and then found out she had given it to assistant, and that office was already locked for the day.

Never again will I ever go out of my way to be nice to her. Some people are just not worth it.

Yes. Perhaps the need to measure up has created an unruly situation. One of them will soon rule the roost.

HI:

Wow.

Is there irony in these two comments?

Here's the thing. Get TWO rulers.

Of course I don''t expect you to REALLY understand why I made such a big deal out of a TOOL without knowing us.
But I do feel better already, so thanks for the sarcasms!

I read this thread and it reminded me of another thread to which I had contributed a story...about being the victim of rudeness in a grocery store. I will link you with the thread (which is really quite entertaining in its

entirety). Now I ask you, didn't I suffer at the hands of the woman who accused me of stealing her grocery cart? ;-)

Zhu, I think maybe the inconsiderate lady thought you might HIT her with the ruler so she confiscated it from you!! LOL!!! You are the keeper of the ruler, I love it. I am totally being silly here, this is one of those things that people do at work that just really get under your skin and make you want to pull your hair out.
