This the Bob Kast tourmaline that I mentioned in another thread. I recently bought a Dan Stair Namanga garnet to have set, but then I saw this stone and had to have it! The Dan Stair stone is really firey....but I wanted a stone where the color just popped in every lighting condition. Try as I might, I still can't capture the beauty of the stone. It is .50ct, 4.94mm.

sigh... it is so much prettier IRL.........

It looks purplish pink to me; is the stone more like the vendor’s picture? More importantly, does it hold its colour indoors?

Outdoor comparison with the DS Namanga garnet.

Yes, it does seem to hold it's color compared to the DS stone. Even my daughter noticed that the DS stone's color went rather lifeless in indoor lighting conditions and also at the jewelers. It does sparkle alot more due to the dispersion/refractive index........but the Rubellites color just pops in all lighting. My jeweler agreed that the color of this stone is just beautiful compared to the more "plum" tone of the Namanga. The Rubellite is definately the color I am looking for and the "dusty/speckly" inclusions are really not seen so much IRL. Funny how a camera can pick up those but not the beauty that I am seeing in the stone!

I don’t suppose you are able to take a picture of both stones together on the same hand? In any case, I agree with your assessment that the DS stone is all about sparkle while the BK stone is all about colour.

Unfortunately, I can't as I was so anxious to get the stone to the jewelers to set it. I hope to get it by Friday. I will post pics then!

I have to think that if the rubellite holds its color indoors, it will be the better choice than the garnet. I love my garnets, but they tend to be finiky about the lighting.

Looking forward to your final ring.

Well said. I totally agree, garnets are such a moody specimen!

Great things come in small packages. Bob has some small rubellites, but the color really packs a punch. Enjoy!!

Loooove them! Great job!

Wow, cushioncutnut! That's an amazing stone   I would definitely chose color over sparkle. I can't wait to see it set! It's not like 3 days is that long to wait for pictures, but... can you describe the setting?

Such a pretty stone! What's Bob's cutting like??

his cutting appears to be pretty nice............I think Dan's may be better though. Hard telling with such small stones.

It is going to a "ballerina style" estate ring I got on Ebay a few months ago. There is currently a sapphire in it...but it is poorly cut and has a slight chip, so I wanted to replace it. The diamonds are absolutely stunning in the setting too. It is rather a deco style setting. I will post lots of pics when I get it.
