I am in the market to purchase an asscher cut diamond for my white gold vintage setting. I have done tons of research on asschers and am a bit torn. I love the classic old Hollywood look of a Royal Asscher, but the price point on the size I want is a little beyond our means. I am willing to settle for a "square emerald", but thought it would be neat to have an estate asscher or one that is from the 1920s. I assume the price point would be somewhat less than that of a Royal and it would have a history behind it (which I would think is super neat!)

I did a search on the web, and am having trouble finding a TRUE vintage asscher. They are all replicas of ones. Does any one have any insight on whether or not they are out there?! Do you think I should just bite the bullet and go for the Royal-- I guess living in a cardboard box won''t be that bad..

FYI: I am looking for at least 1.5 Ct., No lower than VVS2 and love the warmth of lower colors. (J is one of my favorites!!!!)

Thanks for the help… I have been lurking and drooling on my keyboard for way too long and decided to go ahead and say "Hello"!

If you re-read your own writing..., (or the highlighted parts;-) you might have a second thought of your assumption...

I''ll just say it ... genuine antique/estate Asschers are MORE expensive and rarer than the branded Royal Asschers.

The least expensive of all are Square Emeralds ... and they can closely resemble the antique asschers even more so than the Royal Asschers (which are cut with a pattern that was not cut in the originals).

A jeweler near me had a genuine antique Asscher one time and he said it sold for almost double the cost of a similar sized "new" stone. For what it''s worth.

Diagem and Deco,
Can you really even tell modern from antique asschers? I suppose there is always wear on the finish and facet junctions, but stones are cycled around so often, it seems to me that you could theoretically stumble onto one; that documentation of its provenance is what drives up the price of an antique asscher. As to the EC/ RA problem, jplouise recently grabbed killer, branded RA without the mark-up from ERD, so it can happen. It''s just rare. As if finding a kicken'' asscher wasn''t already hard enough.

To the OP:
Good luck with your hunt! Maybe checkout ArtDecoDiamonds. They sell asschers, but I don''t know if they''re really antique. For that I would contact someone like Nelson Rarities and see what they can do within your budget.

Happy hunting!!

Sure..., age is not easy to hide...

But again..., it all depends who cut those newly-old Asschers..., there are definitely some pro''s out there who can make (the finding out) it a hard task.
