Hello All! I previously posted about a Royal Asscher I was considering

and my subsequent buyers remorse

So, thought you might want an update. I received my RA this weekend and have been enjoying staring into its depths. As a reminder, here are the stats: 2.11 (7.31 x 7.32), H, VS1, Excellent/Excellent, table 57%, depth 65.5%. I should note that the stats really don''t describe the ring - it is very much something that needs to be experienced in person. Today I did some comparison shopping. I know it is after the fact, but I felt the need to see other Asschers. A very nice high end local jeweler called in 3 Asschers that were similar on paper. After looking at them I eliminated two but was intrigued by the third. It was a Lazare diamond with roughly the same stats as my RA with a little less clarity (VS2), symetry/polish (VG/VG), and squareness (1.4-1.5 - can''t remember exactly). So here is what I struggle with. I love the look of the RA - cut is beautiful, interesting, and lively, but the Lazare had better color (E) that made it look very special. I think the Lazare also had some different faceting on the crown? Anyhow, how would you decide between the two? Would you go for cut or color? Having both is probably not realistic - RA is expensive enough as it is.

By the way, my RA doesn''t have any detectable color in it to my eye. I only noticed when it was right next to the Lazare E.

only you can answer that, do what makes you happy.

It's not a "head" decision ... it's a "gut" or "heart" decision. Which one can't you live without?

ETA: you won't be wearing them next to each other -- so how they look in relation to each other isn't something I'd pay attention to. it's just which one you like MORE.

Agreed with both Storm and Deco. It''s all in your heart. We can''t say anything about the Lazare but being a branded cut as well, I think it would look beautiful. As an asscher lover, I''d pick the RA because it is really special.

there isn''t a right or wrong answer. both stones and rings are equally as special, you''ve just got to decide what your really want. Sometimes it helps to think about how you''d feel if you didn''t get the RA or the Lazare. would not having one of the other make you feel sad?

Thank you very much to those who responded. I love my RA and am keeping it. After taking a step back I decided that I really loved the whole look of the RA which, to me, is what makes this diamond so special. I stopped by Neiman Marcus today to look at a few stones that the manager had sent over for me to examine. The stones included generic asschers and cushion cuts. It was there that I determined that I love the look of my ring - it has such a breathtakingly mile deep view that it is hard to not keep looking at it. I think my love affair with the RA look must be a preference thing because the other diamonds he showed me were quite lovely. The manager even told me beautiful my ring was and that I did very well selecting it and should keep it. He was even surprised at the H color - thought it looked more F/G. Regardless of the color, it sparkles like crazy! So, it''s a done deal and I am very happy with my ring. I''ll try to post some pictures when my computer gets fixed (using husband''s now). Again, thanks for all the help and support with this diamond purchase. It has been so helpful to get feedback from those who appreciate diamonds and are knowledgable.

Yay!! Can''t wait for the pics!!! I have been following this from the start. So glad you are happy!!!
