Round solitaire suggestions!

hi.. I’m looking to buy a round lab solitaire diamond. With so many options- it can get hard to filter through them all. Ideally looking for VVS2 or higher. Near colorless. Ideal cut. My girlfriend who I’m buying the ring for is pretty petite (4’11) Size 5 finger. I’m thinking in the ball park of 1.5 carats would be nice. Give or take. I’ve been looking at diamonds on rare carat.. as I found a setting on there I like. But I’ve also looked at loosegrowndiamond.com and diamond procing is significantly cheaper on there. Any guidance and suggestions would be amazing. I’ve looked at so many and have compared and read “ideal specs” but I’m sure there are other things that an expert eye could help with if you’d be willing to!
I found this table on Reddit that I’ve also been trying to pay attention to when looking.
Table: 57 to 58%->ideal 58
Depth: 61 to 62.5% ->ideal 62
Crown angle: 34 to 35-> ideal 35
Pavillion angle: 40.6 to 41 ->ideal 41
Girdle: thin to medium ->ideal med (3.5%)
Culet: none/pointed
Cut: excellent
Symmetry: excellent
Polish: excellent

Hello and welcome to PriceScope, aellab!
We can certainly help you find some great rounds to pick from - do you have a budget cap in mind for just the diamond so that we can apply that to the search filters at all the online retailers out there?

Actually the combination 35 / 41 is not really "ideal"....Crown and Pav relationship is inverse so 34/41 or 35/40.7

I guess you shouldn’t take everything you read on Reddit to heart. thank you for clarification.

Hey! Someone on Reddit pointed me your direction- I was hoping our paths would cross! Thank you for reaching out.. trying to keep things around 1,500 at most. I’ve mainly been looking on rarecarat but after seeing drastic price differences on websites like loosediamonds maybe I don’t even “need” to spend that much. I just want a beautiful sparkler - and willing to pay for it. Would you consider 1.5 carats good for a size 5 finger? 1.5-1.70 would probably be max.

You came to the right place on the Internet!

Yes, I think a high optical performance 1.5-1.7 would look great on a size 5 finger.

LooseGrownDiamond probably has the best prices listed for these, but feel free to ask any other sellers that also has them listed for a price match if you like the customer policies/perks at one seller more than others.

I recommend that you move fast because of the Valentine's Day buying rush as well as anonymous lurkers that tend to snipe our recommendations...and even then, you may get a notice that your selection was sold right before your order was placed before the inventory status got a chance to be refreshed.

Thank you I’ll take a look. When selecting diamonds could I ask what you pay attention to because obviously there’s 100s of diamonds but what stands out about those?

You're very welcome!
The material/diamond crystal quality, the cut precision, the proportions and angles, and the overall appearance/personality of them that can be discerned from their videos.

Anything else worth looking at in the 1.60-1.75 range?

Yes, I found these great looking GIA graded options:

And, if you want to get crazy with the diameter, then I found these:

You’re awesome. Thank you. A follow up question- I know the GIA reports don’t show the growth method and it’s my understanding HPHT is preferred. Is there a way to know what with the GIA diamonds you sent? Or are there some others I could consider in the 1.50 carat with a IGI to know that for sure? The more I look- I think anything over 1.50 may be a little too much and wondering if I should consider 1.30-1.50 if you have time to send any others. Thank you again for taking the time to help.

You're very welcome - I do filter for HPHT only and then look for graining - if I see anything that makes the diamond crystal quality look off/bad, then I won't link it as a recommendation.
And yes, I can look in the 1.30-1.50 range for ya.

aellab I have a great recommendation for you, but I don't want to post it until you're on the forum so that you can move quick on it if you like how this diamond looks. I'll say it has some great proportions that should definitely help out with being quite fiery.

Sorry I’m just seeing this. I’ll keep and eye out for response today and hop on then. Looking forward to seeing the finds! Thank you!

I'm on now for the next few minutes, so if you're also here I'll post the link.

Okay I’m here for a few minutes if you are. I did stop in and look at some sizes today.. 1.5 seemed like the sweet spot so hopefully this one is close!

Here you go - hopefully it's still available!

Yes I had looked at that one.. you sent me that one the other day as well! Would that be your pick?

Okay sounds good. Are you familiar with rarecarat jm care plan? At $439 vs just insurance?

No, but maybe consider going with a local jeweler for the setting (after they badmouth your perfect diamond to try and guilt you into buying one of their inferior diamonds at 3-5x the price haha) so that you have a close proximity shop for all inspections, maintenance, adjustments, resizing, and usually complimentary cleaning.

Sounds good! I ordered the diamond. I’ll keep you posted and send pictures when I receive it. Thank you for your help.

You're very welcome - fingers crossed that they can secure it from the supplier for you!

The diamond was secured. I’m anxious to see it all though. Worried I got “too small” and should of capitalized on like a 1.7.. maybe it’ll look bigger with the ideal proportions. If not I may be back for a bigger suggestion. Haha I’ll post a picture when I get it.

Hopefully you love the diameter of the 1.51 - but, you can always buy different diameter diamonds in the future and grow/add to the collection!

I reached out to rarecarat and they said it’s still not too late to change out the diamond if I’m preferring something bigger.. if I went with something in the 1.70 -/+ range- would you have any suggestions? VVS1/D range and as sparkly as they come? Def don’t want to sacrifice quality. Or should I hang tight and see the 1.5.

I'll search in the 1.66-1.79 range and post links if I find any great diamonds.

Thank you!

What makes the big price differences between them? The first 2 with ideal cuts vs the rest that are excellent but $400 more.
