Hi everyone...I have been reading and learning so much here. I am trying to decide between a round solitaire or a cushion cut halo. Very different, i know!! Some background....
I was married before and had a 1.25 pear solitaire that I wore with a 1 ct tw 5 stone wedding band. The pear was long and skinny and everyone (well maybe not you educated PSers!) thought it was closer to a 2 ct stone. I loved the timeless look of the solitaire with the band so I started thinking that this time around I would go for a RB. I was looking at around a 1.8 to a 2.2 (if poss) to go with a 1.5 tw 5 stone wedding band. My last stone was an I SI2; it had a small feather hidden under the prong on the side.
Then I happened to walk into a jewelry store and saw a Christopher Designs cushion cut halo (just the setting). it was gorgeous! Then I started thinking maybe so sting totally different from the first ring would be better? They are so completely different.
My thoughts/questions:
I definitely want something that will look bigger than what I had before. I know the cushion would face up smaller than the RB but the halo would help enhance it (the tw of the halo is over 1 ct I believe). If the RB was closer to 1.85 what would you think the difference was (in appearance between the pear and the RB )
The final appearance with the WB would be very diff....with the halo it would be an eternity or half eternity to match the same stones on the side of the e-ring, so take that into consideration.
I know the halo is trendy right now but I still think of it as classic. But I am worried I might regret it since it is easier to change the setting of a simple solitaire down the road. However, I keep thinking about it!
Looking forward to your opinions! Thanks!
Please disregard the last part below. I tried to load the picture from my iPad but I can't figure it out.
Is the RB a much better investment than a cushion?
If I went with cushion, some are more square and some more rectangular....is one "better?"
What do you guys think of having something so similar to what I had before? I know it doesn't matter, I just wonder if I should go for something totally different or stick with what worked for me and enhance it?
My ring size is a 5.5 and the budget is around $17-20k for the e-ring.
Here is picture of the halo setting on my finger. They stuck a yellow sapphire in to give me an idea but it would hold about a 2 ct cushion.
