Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase an engagement ring and have been trying to gather what information I can. There is a great wealth of information and helpful people on these forums. From reading these forums, I found the Victor Canera Emilya setting, which seems to fit the bill for what I think my girlfriend would like.

When I asked for a quote, the diamond that they suggested is:
https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/knd77v

Does this diamond look ok? It is an Ideal Hearts diamond. I would like to source the diamond from the same place that is making the setting since it should be simpler, but I don't mind getting a diamond elsewhere if I could get a better diamond for a similar price. I also live in California, so I'll have to pay tax at time of purchase for anything purchased at Victor Canera. Purchasing a diamond elsewhere could let me postpone tax payment until taxes are due. Are there other vendors I should be looking at or any specific diamonds that anyone could recommend?

Also, would it be worth looking into a CAD/cast setting from Brilliantly Engaged for a quality setting at a lower price? Could I get something pretty similar to the Emilya setting?

My rough diamond guidelines:
Shape: Round
Carat Weight: .9 or higher
Cut: Ideal
Color: G-I
Clarity: VS1-SI1
Diamond Budget: $5500 (assuming $4k for the setting)
Total Budget: $9500

Thanks for the help!!

The VC diamond is obviously beautiful, but given your budget I'd allocate more money towards the diamond and slightly less towards the setting. Just my prejudice, if you're spending nearly $10k then you should be getting at least 1 carat of center diamond. Pure unjustifiable round number prejudice!

BE is a good alternative. You can buy a 1.12 carat Hearts and Arrows I/SI1 round from them for $6786. BE's settings in the midlevel custom collection will run around $2600 for a platinum halo.

Bigger diamond, still a beautiful setting, under budget, and taxfree.

Thanks, danielxlin. I was thinking the same thing as far as the proportion of cost between the setting and the diamond. I felt that I might have been putting too much towards the setting. That Ada setting does also seem to have the look of what I'm looking for. I'll try to follow up with BE. Thanks for response!

This what I would do too. Not to dissuade you on a lovely, custom setting, but I'd want a larger stone and have more of the budget there.
