I just purchased a round cut GIA .70 diamond F color SI1 Excellent cut polish and symmetry. The problem is that the setting that I purchased was originally made for a 1.00 CW diamond. So, they had to set the diamond a little lower in the prongs. When I asked if they could get another in that was made for my diamond they said it would take four weeks and I wouldn''t even notice much of a difference. So now I have the ring and it looks pretty good but I''m wondering If I shouldn''t wait the four weeks. Do any of you think that it would make much of a difference? Some information on how it looks now in the setting is: You can barely see the bottom of the diamond from the side and by barely I mean you have to look very hard. The top view of the diamond is beautiful. Thanks for your Help!

Hi Castruba

Do you have a clear photo of the ring? That would be helpful if you could manage it please.

No, Sorry no photo but I could have one posted by this afternoon.

Also I would like to add that I was thinking of asking her this weekend which is why I really don''t want to wait four weeks.

If you could get a photo with side views castruba that would really help. Try to take them as clearly as you can so we can see the side views of the diamond from top to bottom plus one face up also please if possible.

Can you propose, and have the prongs shaved after a few weeks/months?

I do think they''re overwhelming your stone, but (being the girl) I sure wouldn''t want to wait a month to be proposed to while someone made my prongs skinnier

Top view. Any help on what I should do would be great, thanks.

I didn''t know that it was possible to have prongs "shaved" I guess I could ask the jeweler

It actually looks like the stone is set at a pretty good height, in my opinion, however I would agree that the prongs look a touch thick and may need to be taken down a bit, but I really don''t think it''s too low at all. Higher might cause security issues. Just something to consider.

:)

Thanks, I talked to my jeweler and they said they could shave down the prongs at no cost. However, they said that the prongs shouldn''t be taken down too much because it could cause a security issue. I think I''ll just give her the ring and let her decide if she wants the ring modified. Wish me luck!

wait a second, wait a second... why are ''shaved prongs'' being mentioned if what you initially discussed was a height issue? Making the prongs smaller won''t raise the stone up higher.

What was the question/concern again? Do you think the prongs are too big? You want to make them thinner or the tips shorter?
or do you think you want it set higher so you can see more of the diamond?

I wanted to see if I should have a setting made for my specific size diamond because the diamond was set about a millimeter lower than normal. However, someone pointed out that the diamond was being overwhelmed by the prongs and that I should have them shave down. Your opinion is welcome, thanks for you question.

Yeah, I don''t the height is the problem. The prongs appear too thick in a profile view.

From the top it looks great. I agree with everyone else that the height is fine, the prongs just look too bulky.

Good luck on your proposal!

looks great from the top down, slightly heavy on the side, but the height looks really good. I would listen to your jeweler''s advice, you don''t want to jeporadize the security of the diamond but a little shave wouldn''t hurt - congrats beautiful ring
