Hello,

I am new to this site and looking for some advice from those who are more well informed than myself when it comes to diamonds and diamond shopping.

I am currently between two different diamonds at two different jewelry stores. Below are my choices.

Diamond A: .96 carat, round, excellent cut, 'H' color, VVS1, GIA, ex polish,Table and depth fall in excellent range, and VG symmetry for $x.

Diamond B: .90 carat, round, VG cut, 'F' color, SI1, GIA, ex polish, Table and depth fall in excellent range, and VG symmetry for $x - $400.

I guess my questions are, how big of a factor is the 'H' color of dimaond A vs the very good cut of the diamond B. And, what is the best diamond for the money?

I appreciate any and all advice.
Thanks

Search "cheat sheet for rounds" and read that thread.

Use the HCA cut adviser tool at the top, under Tools tab. Look for score of 2 or less on both of those stones. It's just a rejection tool.

Gypsy has a blurb that she cuts/pastes that elaborates on all of this.

Good Old Gold has videos that compare colors side by side. Color is graded face-down, so diamonds are going to show more tint that way than face-up. But it's still an important consideration, if the diamond is a mounting that doesn't cover up the pavilion. Personally, in that size range I think H is white enough and I'd pick the better-cut stone of the two, if clarity is the same. Both will face up white and you'd probably only notice a difference if you were comparing the two side by side, speaking strictly of face-up not looking at them from the side or face-down.
