Hey pricescope! I've been lurking/reading for a few weeks now and can't wait to put the PS finest to work on my own application :) Before i started researching i wasn't looking forward to this portion of it, but i have to say it's been kind of fun. I'm ready to pull the trigger and am focused on a round brilliant with the criteria below in a cushion style halo. I would like to be "all in" with the ring for sub $15K.

1.5+ ct
very good - excellent cut
si1 or better, fairly eye clean
H color or better

For the setting my gf and i are both a little bit critical of how bulky some of the commercial halo's we've seen look. We came across this example in our searching which we both really like the aesthetics.

Some of the things we like:
-minimal gap between the halo and the stone
-stone height is low to the finger
-pave diamonds are set in close proximity to each other with minimal setting metal
-minimal claw style prongs on the main stone vs large blobs

My questions for the PS community...
- Would you find a local jeweler for the setting so we have the local relationship or trust in ordering one online somewhere?
- If through Vanessa - would you recommend purchasing the entire assembly from her or sourcing your own stone? ...guessing i know the PS answer on this one ;-)
- What so we think that setting should cost?
- Any recommendations for a stone? Do we think i can squeak up to 1.75ct or so with acceptable quality criteria?

For a setting like you want, I would go to Victor Canera.

He has diamonds in stock, or you can source your own diamond and send it to him.

Thanks for the suggestion @coda72 . I'm not big on the flower pedals underneath the setting or the spacing between the stone and the halo, but i could see if they will customize.

Victor Canera!!!

I think coda meant to link Victor Canera's original Emilya setting, which does not have that petal undergallery. Here is the classic version shown with a cushion in the center but he does the same for a round: https://www.victorcanera.com/rings/engagement/the-emilya-halo-solitaire-with-2ct-vintage-cushion

Victor does beautiful work, but he's also very expensive. Mark from Brilliantly Engaged (it was also known as ERD before the name change) has done some lovely halo custom pieces for a number of PSers, you can do a search on here. They can source the stone for you and from what I remember prices are reasonable.

Another designer who does beautiful work and uses the hand forge method is Maytal Hannah. She also has positive reviews on here, and quite a few examples of halo rings on her Instagram.

No, I would not. A lot of places say they can do something but cant especially when you are picky about a setting.

Yes (the whole thing), that's if she can provide you a well-cut stone at a reasonable price.

$4-5k for hand forged, less if you go with someone like David Klass$2-$3k (not hand forged)
You also might look into Maytal Hanna

Wont be able to push it if you go with Hand forged.
If you go with David Klass you may be able to push it higher than 1.5 but not sure if you'll make it to 1.75.

edit ...looks like I duplicated the Maytal Hannah recommendation

I'll check out both of those this afternoon - thanks for the ideas.
