Can somebody please give me an opinion on this diamond?

GIA Certified:

1c round brilliant

Cut: Very Good, Color: F, Clarity: SI1, Polish excellent, Symm, Excellent and Flour: None

Measurements: 6.31 -6.36 x x 4.01

Table: 56% Depth: 63%

Q's:

What is not good about it? ie what would you chnage?

Should i sacrifice color for clarity?

Is there any other info I should be looking for?

Your help is appreciated.

Welcome! First of all, limit your search to GIA Excellent cut only (or AGS Ideal cut, but there are fewer of those so you'll run across more GIA graded stones locally). There are going to be problems with almost any "very good" cut diamond. For example, with this one, it is too deep which makes it face up smaller than it should. In other words, it looks smaller than 1 ct. should. A one carat stone should be 6.4-6.5mm. I would eliminate it because of that. However, we also need to see the crown and pavilion angles because those tell us more information to assess cut and light performance.

Some very general guidelines:

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

(there are other combinations that can work, but these are what I always aim for since they will usually fall in the GIA Ex/AGS Ideal cut range)

Color and clarity are personal. I don't go below VS2, personally, but many here do to get a larger stone for the money. I find G-H color to be the best value, but F is wonderful if you can get what you want within budget.

Depth is too big, usually means the stone will face up smaller for the same weight, a well cut 0.96c stone can easily have a diameter of 6.45mm. Also bigger depth usually will have light leakage problem, so will not be as brilliant as a well cut stone.

Tx a mill. It is great to get straight non biased info. Very much appreciated. May post again with a new specification and if you would throw your eye over it, that would be great.

It is of such a benefit to have your advice
