Yes - less likely to knock it on things thus chipping a girdle, etc.

I don''t think you would have a problem with it set at the regular height if it''s in a 6 prong setting. I asked for mine low for asthetic reasons, but unless you are in the habit of banging your rings around a lot, then it shouldn''t be too big a worry.
