IMO it's inexcusable to comment on the medical condition (if that's even the correct term for autism) of other people's children, famous or not.

She is irrelevant. Just an attempt to gain publicity of any kind and I agree it is disgusting for her to have done this under the guise of "caring" about autism.

Doing this under the guise of autism? Is that what she is saying?

Even a professional child psychiatrist will not diagnose someone with out seeing and talking to them in person.

And if the child were, does she not think a family with the financial means like the Trumps would not be on top of this already?

And did she ever think he may just be shy and not comfortable with all that attention?

That is how she is trying to clarify it.

Or spin it?

I was reading some of the reader replies and Republican or Democrat - for the most part they are in agreement that when it comes to minor children, it is hands off.

Which is why I said "under the guise of caring about autism". I think we are in agreement Ruby.

Red I was calling her out, not you.

I was trying to say she was spinning it under the guise of her child having autism because her original "diagnosis" did not go over well.

What she did was gross. I can't say that I'm surprised though. The election has made lots of people pretty darn ugly.

Whatever her intentions, she should not have published her musings publicly. As for shame, there's plenty of that to go around where Rosie and the Donald are concerned.

Rosie is way out of line. You would think she would have more sensitivity on this topic. :angryfire:

I wondered the same thing after reading a New Yorker article on the Trumps (a bit on Barron made me wonder) and then seeing him in the news clips over the past months. The Trumps certainly have access to a wide range of help and expertise in NYC and Trump does seem to believe in education for his children. It would also 'explain' their reluctance to move to DC, if all the NYC teachers/tutors/therapists that already work well with Barron are in place. Why move him away from his routine and his people.

A person who is not a medical specialist has no business diagnosing anyone.

I totally agree with this. Speculation is even worse than attempting to diagnose. Children are just a hands off area that everyone should respect.

Now she's justifying it by saying that her daughter was recently diagnosed and so she knows what autism looks like  This makes me so mad. There is no justifying what she did and it seems obvious to me that her intent was malicious :nono:

How is it obvious? I wouldn't be so quick to judge her or any parent of a child with a disability. Maybe her intentions were sincere. Maybe she doesn't think it's shameful to have a child with autism and thinks the ends justify the means. Because it is not shameful to have autism. I may not agree with how she did it, but I can't assume she was compelled by evil. Maybe she thought that the parents might be nudged to do something to help those with autism.

What is sincere about tweeting out that you wonder if so-and-so's child has autism  :nono:
It's not anyone else's business. Not everyone who has a child with a disability has to make it their mission to educate everyone else. If a family chooses to keep things private, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are ashamed either.
Lots of families have to deal with differences, special needs, disabilities, etc. and they should be free to treat and/or deal with those things on their own terms.
Rosie & Trump despise each other. She tweeted it because she knew it was hurtful.

I agree all children should be off limits but that is not the reality of our media or culture. I remember people were horrible when Chelsea Clinton was going through an awkward stage. Running for president puts your family in the lime light. I just wish Trump would address it. It actually would be a great way to connect. Autism is a real issue and we should be talking about it. He makes fun of everyone. Let's not forget him making fun of a disabled reporter. Not that it makes it right, Barron SHOULD be off limits. Also people seem to share everything on social media. I read what people ate, what their doctors say, see millions of baby/kid pics...there seems to be a different comfort level of privacy than there used to be.

Trump is not lots of families. He now has the power to bring attention to it and yes, the First Lady has the opportunity to make it her mission to educate others. And that is what Rosie has stated from day one. But I guess you are a mind reader and know exactly what she was thinking and that her intentions were malicious :wall:

Nope. Not a mind reader. I just happen to know (along with the rest of the world) that Rosie and Donald hate each other.
Rosie hates Donald/Donald hates Rosie + Donald wins election = Rosie lashes out at Donald by attacking his children
It seems pretty obvious to me, but sure, I could be wrong. My post wasn't factual. Just my observations and opinions =)

As far as Trump's family is concerned, maybe they don't want an "opportunity" to school the rest of the world on whatever disability their son may or may not have? Maybe their son doesn't want the rest of the world to know that he may or may not have a disability? It's so incredibly personal and some families may choose to keep it that way. That was not Rosie's decision to make.

Rosie O'Donnell, you have officially crossed over the line. Have a problem with the father? But you never go after the child.

You owe both an apology.

I think that I'm puzzled by this whole thread Bc I'm seriously wondering why people are using the term "out" in conjunction with autism. Should autism be a deep dark secret that only parents should know about their children? There an entire movement called autism awareness out there precisely to demistify this condition so that those who suffer from autism can be viewed normally. As long as we keep associating autism with a social stigma or some kind of social taboo, this awareness movement will not accomplish its goal. And precisely Bc Rosie is a parent of an autistic child , maybe she is driven to further this cause. Let's give her the benefit of the doubt. The problem is that egotistical parents view autism as a defect that reflects on their genes, and some even live in denial and do not get the child the proper help. That is what this movement is all about. And at least Rosie has gotten the conversation going.

She didn't produce the video. She retweeted, and made her own commentaries. Just like OP here attached a link and further made this video accessible to those of us who don't follow Rosie on Twitter. Now we saw this video Bc of OP along with her commentaries.

But it's seems you are fixated on Rosie's motivations rather than the actual comments she made when she retweeted. Most people aren't as obsessed with Rosie and Trump's relationship as you are, to state opinions like yours. :wavey:

This thread isn't about whether or not we should or shouldn't be raising awareness for autism. I think most people would agree that raising awareness and/or normalizing it is generally beneficial.
This thread is about how it's a parent's choice to decide. Some random person should not get to decide if it's right for a particular family to talk about a child with autism. Autism is complicated and if someone chose to keep it personal (for whatever reason), then I respect that. Again, I don't necessarily think that not talking about it means that it's taboo, it's embarrassing, it's abnormal, it's shameful, etc.
Unfortunately, I don't view the Rosie/Donald feud as a productive conversation-starter about autism :blackeye:

I'm not sure why you'd assume I have an obsession with Trump/Rosie  I was just commenting in a thread because I found it interesting, much like you. It's nothing personal. It's fine if we don't agree. If you'd prefer to give Rosie the benefit of the doubt, then I don't have an issue with that because I understand that as your opinions (and I don't assume that your opinions mean that you have an obsession with Trump & Rosie ;-) )

It's NOT Rosie's place to use her 'public stage' to disclose or suppose someone else's private medical matters, regardless of what her child has or her 'pet cause' is. If anything, you would think she would be more sensitive to the subject and letting his parents make the right choices for their child. And your rationalizing it is BS, IMO. Not everyone wants to be a 'poster child' or part of a 'movement' for a condition, and that is their right. It's no different than publicly 'outing' someone who may have been a victim of sexual trauma, has cancer, or had a nose job - it's THEIR business to decide to disclose it. But to thrust someone else's private/undisclosed medical matters (that you don't even know to be true) into the limelight (regardless of their role in public life) is the height of rudeness.

The mere suggestion that someone has a condition based on how they look - when you are not a doctor much less that person's Doctor - is also disgustingly judgmental, and no different in my mind than someone saying that a woman is a slut because of how she dresses, or a person is a criminal because of the color of their skin. There are some things - some statements - that you just don't make. If you want to be all judgy in the privacy of your own home, that's your business. But when you do it publicly for the world to see, you shouldn't get all bent out of shape when someone calls you a rude, loudmouth pig as Trump did to her, and I'd say she proved him right by her thoughtless actions here.
