OK, they don't exist! Well barely, anyway! I looked everywhere for a rose gold scatter ring (sometimes known as a zig-zag ring) and had such trouble finding one that E.B. Horn in Boston is making one for me.
It has been a journey.
Two well-respected Pricescope vendors do scatter rings so I contacted them. The first told me that they don't work with rose gold as the hue is unreliable. It was a pity as I liked their yellow gold scatter ring. Price was $695 for 4mm and .20ctw.
The second Pricescope vendor has 5mm scatter rings for $1090 in rose gold, again ctw of 0.20. So I'm thinking, Excellent! They can make me a 4mm one easily in rose gold, since they do exactly what I want in 5mm rose. However, when I contacted them I was told I could not have 0.20ctw, only .10tcw which is much smaller than I wanted. The reason? They said that on 4mm, the diamonds would have to be that small in order to create a true scatter effect. I was very surprised! I said that the other vendor, (mentioning no names) had images of both a 3mm and a 4mm with ten 0.02 diamonds and they looked fine. The kicker? The vendor wanted $795 for a 4mm ring with a mere 0.10tcw, when every other place I looked at charges in the region of $695 for TWICE the diamond weight, 0.20tcw. I explained that even with the extra cost of custom, I hardly wanted to pay $795 for half the weight of diamonds I can get in the same ring for $695 elsewhere. I was told, "OK, have a good day!"
Very odd!!! Anyway, no matter.
I had also asked Blue Nile for a quote, as they do a scatter ring in platinum. But the quote was four days late and I thought they'd forgotten about it. By the time their quote came in, I was working with E.B. Horn. (BTW I also looked at Gemvara, which has lots of rose gold options but again not exactly what I wanted.)
The deal I got with E.B. Horn is as follows: $640 for a 4mm rose gold scatter ring, brushed matte finish to make the diamonds pop, and then diamonds of .26tcw, so each diamond is 0.026, which I'm very happy about as they're a little bigger than any of the other options available anywhere.
I'll have to reserve judgment as the ring isn't here yet - it'll take about ten days. I'm excited though.
Who would ever have thought that finding a mere 4mm scatter ring in rose gold would be so difficult?? Lots places do thin rose gold bands with a line of about 5 diamonds, but a finding a wider scatter ring in rose is more of a challenge than you might imagine!!
