Soooooooo I was browsing the Tiff website and found this ring that I love!
30.gif

It's rose gold, platinum, 2mm total and $500 which -- isn't bad?? (see pic)

Now my new ring is going to be platinum, will the rose gold whither away? It looks to me that the platinum is in the middle and the outside and inside of the ring are rose gold.

Please advise!! :D

(and, I'm not getting married until Oct 2010 now so I have time)

Okay, first of all - I LOVE that ring! It''s completely fabulous!

I *think* I remember reading some concern about platinum wearing away gold.

But... dang that''s gorgeous. And it seems to me that any 2 rings are going to rub a bit, regardless of what metal they are!

Or maybe I just really want the ring to work, because it''s fabulous.

I''m not sure about the wearing away, but wanted to chime in that I love that ring!

I know, I was thinking that too.. that it MIGHT not be too big of a problem.... but *sigh* Perhaps I should get it made in reverse??????

ooh i love that ring as well, i''m not much help with the platinum on rose gold tho, sorry

Hmm, I don''t know about their rose gold alloy combination, but I have a similar band with yellow gold on the outside rim instead, that I wear with my platinum e-ring. I''m sorry to report that the gold has eaten away at the platinum prongs! No diamond action involved. I thought that Tiffany''s gold scratches their platinum? At least that''s what happened with my rings.

I do find the two-tone bands to be really very pretty either alone or with an e-ring!

wow! would love to see this ring with diamonds flush set and spaced around the platinum...

yowza!

I don''t know nothin'' ''bout nothin'' except that I am in LURV with this ring. I may have to go check it out myself. For the price maybe you should buy two so you have an extra when/if the first wears out.

Enabler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Yes... two... I should''ve thought of that! One for each side (so I''d need 4 total??) ;)

Maybe when people talk about platinum wearing away gold is for two separate rings worn next to each other.

When two dissimilar metals rub against each other the harder one will wear away the softer one.

This ring does have two metals, but it is ONE ring, so no rubbing.

BTW, that is a really really stunning ring.

And here is my teaser pic of my new ring! (Grandma's ring..) I will be bringing it in to get some work done tomorrow and to get a new appraisal...

Ps. I DO NOT have blood on my hand. My hands are stained from pitting a billion cherries for Jam!

Hi SB -

I absolutely adore the pink/white combo of Platinum and Rose Gold. This ring is beautiful and I don''t think you''ll need to worry about the Gold part of it wearing down... for a while, at least.

Gold will wear with time, but being that this is an all around band it will rotate constantly, so you''ll find that it will wear equally on all sides. Also, being that the Platinum protrudes further than the 18K Gold, the Gold part of the band will come into actual contact with other things fewer times - you''ll hit the Platinum part first if you hit anything, which will also protect the Rose part of the band.

It''s quite a lovely ring.

Ahh! Good point... Thank you for helping. It''s such a unique, pretty band I really want it to work :D

Just to clarify, you''re planning to wear this with your new gorgeous ring, correct? And are worried that the rose gold would eat away at the platinum of the other ring, not the platinum sandwiched in the ring, right?

Yes, with my new e-ring (which will get a proper thread once it has been sized and cleaned and re-pronged

)

I was thinking for some reason the platinum on the e-ring would wear away the rose gold, not vice versa... but gold will always wear away platinum- is that right?

Sorry I don''t know much about metals here.

i''d like to know how much the gold would affect the platinum as well. love that band!

Hey SB!

I am thinking of getting that band too!!!

It''s so delish, isn''t it? I heard that gold will wear platinum as well. What about buying a thin silver ring to put in between the band and your delicious ring?

Just a thought. I don''t want your beautiful ring to get scratched is all

Yes. At least from what I''ve read up on the issue, and from my own experience. Again, Tiff''s rose gold alloy might be different, but it''s still gold, so if I had to bet I''d go with the platinum giving in to the rose gold band. But there doesn''t seem to be much of an edge to the band, so maybe it won''t hurt the e-ring so much?

That is one HOT ring you got from your grandmother! It''s absolutely breathtaking.
