Hi there - I have settled on a white gold eternity style e-ring and they''re going to plate the head in rose gold. My question is this: if they do it and show me a photo and I don''t like the colour, can it be easily adjusted to the preferred colour? (I''ve found that rose gold can run the gamut from pink to yellow to orange to brown! I want a light brownish-yellow colour and I have shown him photos of what I would like) Or would they have to totally re-do it and start over?

I''ve already been a total pain to him and I don''t want to go over this a zillion times (I think we''re getting a great deal on the cost of the setting and the extra labour so I don''t want to make a huge deal over an inexpensive setting)

thanks.......

I hope they can get the colour right the first time, because if you do this once, it's something that is going to have to be redone periodically depending on how fast it wears off. With an eternity style band, that may be more than once a year. The only way to get plating off is to repolish the piece, and for an eternity band, that sounds like a nightmare to be honest. Are you sure you want to do this, rather than say buy an already manufactured rose gold band or eternity band? Can you try a test run with an inexpensive ring, so you know for sure what the colour will look like?

ETA: I'm a bit confused over how much of the ring is going to be replated. But even if it's just the head, it the same basic things apply. It will have to be maintained, and it may require having your stone removed, it's hard to say.

Plating any part that wears, such as the head of the ring, will be VERY temporary. It will prove a waste of your time, energy and money. It you REALLY want something to be rose gold color, which is a slightly reddish yellow, make the part in the correct color of rose gold and let it last for fifty years without a problem.

Afterthought: Rose gold is colored rose by copper alloy. The copper will always tarnish and darken, so be prepared to wipe and polish it occasionally.

That''s what I was thinking too...

Oh gosh - after I wrote this last night I woke up this morning and phoned him back and said "Forget the rose gold plating. Let''s do all white gold" Mostly because I was worried that if I tired of it, what would I do (and I had read a post where someone had said when they see a ring with rose gold on it anywhere, that''s ALL they can seem to look at rather than the whole ring. That made me rethink it).

I guess that was a good call, huh? (I had only read a few posts about plating and they hadn''t definitely said it was that bad but I had wondered about it''s durability seeing as copper was the alloy used)

PHEW! Thanks guys!
