I have 2 large dogs and could do with some help. Does anyone have a Roomba and, if so, what are your thoughts on it? I also see that it now has a feature to mop floors. Does anyone have any experience with that?

All feedback appreciated!

I heard about a woman who owned a dog and a Roomba.
She came home to find the Roomba vacuumed up the dog's poop and spread it all over the house.

But by all means, jump on the latest bandwagon and put your faith in yet more overpriced and under-performing technology that's too good to be true.

If you want a vacuum get a central vac for all the reasons I've posted about many times here.

My golden retriever, long haired chihuahua, and long haired cat create more hair than I can keep up with. I love the roomba for everyday hair pick up. I have to clean out the bin 3-4 times each time I run it.

A few things:

I still have to vacuum about once per week to get the nooks and crannies the roomba can’t reach.

After two years, my first roomba died. I promptly bought another one.

For pet hair, you will need a 985 model because it has the better suction.

My husband looooves his Roborock.

You do need to move chairs and dog beds away if you want a thorough clean though but it only takes him 5 mins to do it and then he sits there and programs Robbie to clean for him.

He looooooves Robbie.

If you have a hardwood, laminate, vinyl, or tile floors, the roomba works great. I find that the suction doesn’t work as well with area rugs so I would assume it wouldn’t work as good with carpet as well.

I was opposed to getting a roomba in the beginning, thinking it was some overpriced gimmick. My husband got tired of seeing me sweep and vacuum every single day, you see, I have 3 dachshunds! He bought one against my wishes and I am so very thankful! No one has the time to vacuum every single day. There’s nothing I hate more than the feeling if crumbs sticking under your feet (yuck!) and I am just amazed by how much roomba picks up.

Yes, it has nooks and crannies it can’t reach. But supplemental vacuuming once a week or so is nothing compared to all the time I spent sweeping and vacuuming several times a day in the past! As for the story about the roomba spreading dog poop all over the house, you have an option to schedule when it cleans or to run it whenever you wish. As for me, I mostly run it when I’m in the house. That incident can easily be prevented.

As for the roomba mop, my husband got me one and promptly returned it. It takes FOREVER and doesn’t mop as good. It is much easier and 1000% faster to pick up a swiffer wet jet and mop.

I’ve had mine for 2 years, no complaints! It is worth every penny.

I have one, it doesn’t replace your vacuum but does a good job of picking up pet hair especially under furniture so you can stretch out the time between full on vacuuming.

I LOVE my roombas! We have two. One is over 8 years old and now vacuums our hard floor surfaces (we've replaced parts all with aftermarket parts from Amazon, NOT difficult if you're somewhat handy) and we have a newer 985 for the carpet. For daily maintenance it's very helpful. The dog issue (we have one and two cats) is NOT an issue since our dog does NOT have accidents in the house. If you have a dog that "makes" in the house then I would recommend keeping the dog away from where roomba works.

That incident with the dog can easily be prevented easily, imo. It’s not like the roomba just runs randomly. You always have the option to either schedule it or just turn it on whenever you feel like. Honestly, If she had a problem with her dog having accidents in the house, I would make sure everything is clear before running the roomba. I’d also make sure I am in the house when I run it.

I also think the OP isn’t looking to replace her vacuum, I think she is needing HELP with keeping hair under control which roomba is great for, imo. Nobody has the time and the patience to vacuum every single day. And Roomba, being a hands free option is great. There’s so much more you can do while letting the roomba do its thing.

I had one and it annoyed me. Didn't like having it moving around the house bumping into stuff. The dust compartment is small and I didn't find it efficient to clean out the dust and hair multiple times when I could just vacuum and get it over with.

Hmmm - so - mixed reviews. Setters shed a LOT, so the small dust compartment might be a problem.

On the other hand, as @ean said - I'm not looking to replace my vacuum, just get a little help and keep the floors cleaner between vacuums. I don't *think* the bumping would worry me, and it's not something I'd have running 24/7.

They're more expensive than I had thought, tho, so I'm a tad on the fence about it. My husband does the vacuuming, due to the weight of the v.c. and because we have stairs, and I'd love this to be a less frequent job for him. We used to have cleaners, but they just didn't do a good enough job, and their prices went up and up and up.

We have a top of the line Roomba and we love it. I don't have any pets, but I do have a toddler. It has a smart map, so we don't have to move anything to clean. It's integrated with Google home, so all I have to do is say "Google, clean the kitchen" or whatever room. I bought the base that self empties, so I only have to empty the bag once a month. That said it was $900 and the auto empty feature is loud and terrified my toddler.

This is my experience. And it was a hassle (IMO) to clean. I prefer vacuuming. But as you can see the mileage varies and some people love it and some don't. For us vacuuming is easier and more efficient and quieter because that Roomba annoyed the heck out of me. LOL.

If Costco has it you can get it from them and see if you like it. If you don't you can return it.

They are LOUD. We have ours set to run when we're out of the house.

My dad LOVES his. Big time.

As everyone else said : it doesn't replace, the vacuum, it complements the options. It will pick up hair, crumbs , etc. We don't schedule ours since I prefer to check if the kids left stuff (socks, toys..) O.pk.n the floor beforehand.
Outs does a decent job on the area rugs and it's nice come back upstairs and it looks much cleaner than before while I did other chores. We still use our broom several times a day, vacuum every other day and mop two/three times a week. It's just cleaner in between.

I have 2 corgis and a cat and I definitely recommend it. I love that thing so much. It starts itself everyday at 7 am and spends most of its day vacuuming. I’d get the one with that empties itself as I have to empty mine at least once/ day. Costco’s new version is the one that empties itself.

I have one and I don't like it. The dust compartment is small and it's too loud. I have been afraid to run it when I'm gone. My drapes puddle in several rooms and I have been scared it would damage them. It is quite funny to watch the pups chase it though.

I havn't used the vacuum cleaner since we moved in here
i just sweep as we have no carpet, only hardwood floor
But this thread has perked my intetest - we do get a surprising anount of cat fluff

it is quite loud. we try to run it when we're not home...

I had one and was not impressed, as other have said the dirt compartment is too small and the machine itself is loud!

@OreoRosies86 post reminded me of the video on YouTube, cracks me up how the cat rides on the Roomba even as it bangs into things, he still hangs on!

I am loving my Dyson stick vac, maybe that would be an option for quick clean ups? Just make sure to order from Dyson to get the Absolute model, it comes with all the attachments you could want!
