Rolling Stone weighs in on Russian story

Snippet from the article:
"But we don't learn much at all about what led our government to determine a) that these hacks were directed by the Russian government, or b) they were undertaken with the aim of influencing the election, and in particular to help elect Donald Trump."

Trump made 2 mistakes during the campaign that will cost him dearly -- he praised Putin and he scoffed at the abilities of US intelligence agencies. The latter is seen within the intelligence community a mortal sin. It would not surprise me if the truthiness of the entire situation is being manipulated. It appeals to my inner cynic.

I am reading more articles by Matt Taibbi and he is quite the journalist. I like his writing and the no nonsense approach. I see no fawning or overt bias so far.

And IYO ...What mistakes did HC made that cost her the election?

Gosh, there's so many but overall I think it was her arrogance.

This even shows code.. what would you need to prove this happened?

I have a better question: why else would Russian 'actors' release only information on the DNC?
What else should Obama do than expel Russian agents.

Taibbi sounds like he's fishing for more information, trying to goad the government.
I could say that 'hey Putin isn't retaliating because he IS guilty and doesn't want the info to come out"

I like Taibbi although over the years he's loud, he's mostly honest. I would look to another source
to corroborate Taibbi. Although I"m not sure exactly what he's saying..

He's not taking the government at face value blindly and recognizing that both sides have politicized this issue. I think that is the point of the article.

Hi,

I do wish to remind people that after the cold war ended???, it was found the our intelligence on Russian might and strength had been greatly exaggerated or misunderstood by our intel agencies. They had projected Russia as this big danger, when in fact it was struggling to keep up. It was not the danger it had been thought. That's why their hold over the other nations in their grasp fell away.

Now North Korea may be the real danger. IMO

I have no inside info, but we will evaluate when new info comes out. I do believe that Russia did hack the DNC and used WikiLeaks, a questionable org., to complete Russian actions.

:) Hi Annete, my husband had teams around the world (no bfd just programmers etc).. but he always had a team or two in Haifa.. so he would go to Haifa 3 - 5 times a year for like 10 years.. the first Russian immigrant he met was this brilliant programmer who emigrated to Israel but had been in the Russian army.. He said that he grew up thinking that America was always on its last legs, they were told soon the USA would fall to communism... so when USSR failed he said they were all shocked! Many of the Russian Israeli's he brought home for dinner etc all wanted to emigrate to the USA.. interesting stories about life in Israel and fear for their children etc.. contrary to what most people think there are many more non practicing Jews in Haifa anyway, most are not religious although they speak Yiddish as a first language they could all speak at least 3 languages. One guy who may husband worked for left the company because there was a VP war in the USA vs Israel development centers on him.. both wanted him and he was owned by Israel so he left the company and got hired by another semiconductor company :)

As much as the soviets got us wrong, we did get the Soviets wrong also. I am unsure if we have this new Russia wrong, but it's a known fact that Russia was hiring hackers.

this is an article about Russian hired trolls from 2015.

Russia is not as big a danger to the US as it is to its neighbors.
