Where shall I start?
How about, I''ll write a brief intro and then you guys can ask the questions you''re interested in.
I grew up in a mid-sized New England city. I was lucky enough to be the #2 scorer on a scholarship exam...and the #1 dropped out, so I was able to attend an amazing prep school my family otherwise would have not been able to afford. At this school, I developed a love for math, which would later be one of my college majors.
When applying for college, I basically put in apps everywhere BESIDES New England. I really wanted to get out and see another part of the country. Since I had an interest in economics, it came down to two schools that were both strong in econ, one in Chicago and the other a small liberal arts college outside of LA. I thought I wanted to go to the Chicago school, but after a disastrous visit, made my way across the country to California.
My freshman year was a little rough...September 11th happened two weeks in to my college life, and that really made me reconsider being so far from my family. Ultimately though, I found that the school and the people were the right place for me, and stayed on to get a double degree in Econ and Math.
Afterwards, I went to work for a large Management Consulting company in LA, which I absolutely love. I like getting exposure to different types of clients and solving interesting business problems. I''ve also spent a lot of time in the non-profit practice area, which has led to my 6-month stint up here in the bay area.
My fiance and I met my sophomore year of college, and dated semi-long distance all throughout (45 miles is long distance on SoCal freeways!) He was a sweetheart, always driving back and forth on the weekends. He works in the video game industry, so when I got my job in LA he moved from his OC employer to an even better company up in LA.
Its been 3 years since I graduated from college, and my now-fiance and I are going to be moving in together in a week! yikes! And, I am also applying to business schools...I have a top choice, but I of course picked the school with the lowest acceptance rate! Oh well, I''ll just have to work extra hard on the apps
AND we''re planning a wedding for next year. So, it is going to be a busy time...but honestly, that''s just the way I like it.

Wow rockzilla it sounds like you''ve had a full life already!
And I think we actually have a bit in common. I also met my FI during my soph year and we were long distance for a bit after I transferred schools. Also, your FI and mine have something in common mine would LOVE to work in the video game industry!
Right now he''s a software engineer at a financial company, and while he loves his job he feels pretty bored and unfulfilled.
He loves video games..so do I..but he has a special passion for them from the programming side. That is so exciting about moving in together! Good luck with your business school apps!! So here''s an easy question, what''s your favorite food?

When is your stint in SF over anyways?? Not yet I hope!
I have to say it''s funny how you see people in person and you''re not sure how they might be, you just know them through posts maybe but in person even we may be different sorts of folks (me purple hair tattoos, you tall blonde girl) I thought you were one of the most personable people I met. I really had an easy time relating to you and you''re really down to earth. I love reading your posts on here because I know you have a really good opinion on things, well worth reading. You''re definitely one of the genuine ones.

Okay so what does your FI do for the video gaming industry? And does he work for a BIG company (cough, blizzard, cough?). You don''t have to say haha. I have game designer friends that work at Lucasarts and friends of friends at EA. I''m of course in the software industry myself although not on the gaming side (anyone need a tech job? I''m sure we''re hiring!).
I''m a rabid gamer so I''m curious as to what he does and if he enjoys it. Do you play video games at all? If so, what? What business schools did you apply to if you don''t mind sharing? I had considered an MBA at one point but I''ve been at my job a long time so I don''t see the point at the moment. I have a friend in your situation that has had a tought time getting into business school, same situation, low acceptance rate. He didn''t make it in this year.

Favorite food: That''s hard. I''m vegetarian, so for meals, I really love italian - pasta, pizza, etc. Little Star Pizza in the Mission is a place I am seriously going to miss!
As for junk food, probably a tie between popcorn and chocolate, so let''s say chocolate covered popcorn (mmmm, Moose Munch!)
This is actually my last week in SF! So sad! But I will be up here from time to time, especially since I ordered my dress from Amy Kuschel and will need to come up for fittings.
My fiance is an associate producer, which means he handles the business side of things rather than the programming (it also means he dresses a bit better than your average video game employee!) He works for one of the big publishers, I won''t say which but it is a major competitor of EA.
I actually don''t play video games, except for the Wii from time to time...I''m more of a bookworm/girly girl.
I won''t name the exact schools I''m applying to, but let''s call them BayArea School, ChicagoArea School and BostonArea School. All are tough to get into, but the BayArea school is my top choice
Favorite vacation: I love to go to Cape Cod in the summer, this year we rented a house in Chatham for a week which was great. I just have awesome memories of it as a kid..we would stay in this motel right on the beach. I actually went back by that motel recently, and it was MUCH shabbier than I remembered. I guess when you''re a kid, you don''t have such snobby taste in hotels, you''re just happy to be by the beach
For our honeymoon, I think we''ll go to Hawaii, likely Kauai. I''d love to do Europe, but being on the west coast, the flights are brutal. I think we''ll do Europe together sometime when we''re living on the east coast again (all part of my master plan! haha)
I actually have 3 purses that I switch between. I''ll attach a photo of the purse I am currently using. I found it for $20 at TJMaxx. It is very realistic suede-looking but actually micro-fiber, which makes my vegetarian self happy. I actually went online and ordered in a bunch of other colors as well. That''s kind of my personality...once I find something I like, its hard to convince me to try something new.I buy the "new" version of basically the same Bandolino work shoes every year.
My other 2 purses: One is a cute green one from Banana Republic that my fiance got me one year for Valentines. The other was a Christmas gift from my best friend, it is made of recycled Sari material and is made by this company called "world of good" - I think they sell the bags at Whole Foods as well.
I''d like to get a new "quality" purse, but it is tough for me to 1) justify spending the $$ and 2) find something that has ALL of the features I want (right size, zip top, comfortable, stays clean, etc.) so I''ll stick with what I have now.

Each year my new years resolution is to wear at least 1 skirt or dress per week, because it is so easy to fall into wearing the same old pants with whatever top goes. But I am getting better about wearing more skirts and dresses, and heels. On the weekend I usually wear my 7 jeans with either a tshirt or cute top. I like tops with girly details, like ribbons, bows, little flowers, etc.

It is not my house...it is somewhat of a ''dream house'' - since I grew up in New England, I have a soft spot in my heart for the traditional colonial with white siding and black shutters.
BUT, since I actually live in LA, there aren''t a whole lot of houses like that out here (more stucco, spanish style, etc) so I have the house photo as a reminder of home.
The actual house itself is owned by some lucky person on Cape Cod, I took the photo while on vacation.

My fiance and I are moving into our first apartment together in 3 weeks! We live in LA, and we''re actually moving into a place in my old building. It is a two bedroom, two bath, and they are updating it for us, so it will also have wood flooring (which I love, the old place had all carpet).
It is in a great location for us, halfway between my work and the beach (2-3 miles in each direction) as well as biking distance to work for him!
I am in the process of picking out furniture, etc. to decorate it. I am going to be getting this daybed for the guest room:

I do the same thing as you do with office wear. I try to wear a dress or skirt every now and then, because for years and years I had to do the whole business suit and heels thing. Now in my "mature" years and the casual environment, it is so easy to get comfy. Sometimes I don''t even put on mascara and that was unheard of in my daily life. Today was one of those days. If I don''t get it on my eyes before noon, and I have no important meetings or social engagement, it doesn''t go on at all.

I too grew up in New England I can totally relate to missing the New England style homes. I now live in the land of brick and stone (Mid-Atlantic Region). For me nothing says NE like wooden siding- either clapboards or shingles- and simple painted shutters and trim in white or black. You won''t find that stuff around where I live now! There is a house in my neighborhood that is sided natural finish singles with white trim and I stop and stare at it every time I go home. It is truly my dream house.
Good luck executing your master plan and getting FI to move to the Boston area!

Hey everyone - we just did the move down to LA from SF this weekend, so I haven''t had time to really respond to this thread...
The guest room walls are going to be basic off-white, the standard for apartments (blah) But, I guess I can deal with it as we''re likely to only be in this apartment one year.
As for being a vegetarian, it is kind of funny. I never really liked the taste of meat, and for a long time ate no red meat, only chicken and fish. Then, in college I decided to try to ''go veggie'' for one month. At the end of the month, I simply didn''t have any desire to eat meat anymore.
I actually have learned more about the more ethical implications of vegetarianism in the years since. While I am not 100% opposed to the idea of eating meat in theory, I believe that the way we have industrialized farming practices, as well as the sheer environmental burden meat production places on the earth, make vegetarianism a responsible choice. People say that since I am vegetarian, I must be anti-hunting - in fact, I would prefer that people eat a deer that they have hunted themselves, after it has lived out its life in its natural habitat, than a fast-food chicken stuffed in a 12"x12" crate its entire life, with its beak cut off, and overfed to the point where it''s legs cannot hold its own weight. I simply believe animals should be treated with dignity, and I don''t think I will be able to eat meat until I can be assured that this has happened.
As far as moving back to the East Coast, I think it will happen in time. While I really like California, it is difficult for me to see raising a family here - both in terms of the expense and the community (I have more family roots in MA). My fiance is actually very supportive of us moving back - although every once in a while he''ll moan about how cold it is going to be, he understands that he has lived in SoCal his whole life, and I''ve been out here, and he is willing to try out another part of the US And, hopefully we''ll get an affordable house close to my ''dream'' house!
