I have this ring on reserve with WF:

$4628
. Report: AGS
. Shape: A Cut Above Princess
. Carat: 1.020
. Depth %: 74.6
. Table %: 68.8
. Crown Angle: 43.7
. Crown %: 13.3
. Pavilion Angle: 39.5
. Pavilion %: 58.2
. Girdle: Thin to Medium
. Measurements: 5.43-5.42X4.04
. Light Performance: 0
. Polish: Ideal
. Symmetry: Ideal
. Culet: Pointed
. Fluorescence: Negligible

Robbins Bros, from whom I purchased my setting, has also found me a stone, a 1ct VS2 G stone ex, vg, faint flourescence, tabke 66%, depth 73.6 percent, medium to slightly thick girdle, 1.01 length to width ratio. Their charge is $5,096.

The ASET on the WF stone is nice (attached.) Robbins Bros. does not have an ASET. They say it is crucial to see the stone in person before making a decision, because people have preferences about fire, contrast etc. They are willing to send out for a Sarin report and/or ASET for me, but it will take about a week.

What do I do? Which stone is better?? HELP!!

That is why there is a return period. Get the WF stone, bring it with you to RB to compare.

You have an ACA princess at $4600 and they are offering you a stone of the same size for almost $5100??? That doesn''t seem like a hard decision to me. I''d go with the ACA stone in a heartbeat!

I don''t see the color and clarity of the WF stone, though. What is it?

pbi: DS it's an I VS1 vs a G VS2.

In the past week I''ve been in RB AND Whiteflash''s stores (Im in Houston) to see the best RB had to offer vs. Whiteflash''s A Cut Above, and it''s not close.

For price/performance, go Whiteflash all the way.

Thank you, thank you thank you! This is what my instinct was telling me, but they''re being very persuasive at Robbins Bros.

And I should say, while on the topic of Robbins Bros., that I have received top-notch, excellent customer service from them all the way. I shopped at the store in Glendale, CA. It has been a surprisingly positive experience purchasing my setting from them. I ended up not liking the first setting I chose, after I spent at least 2-3 hours of their time choosing it. I went back two days later and spent another 2 hours in the store, with a different sales person, to find my perfect setting. They have been unbelievablly helpful, friendly, not giving me any attitude whatsoever about changing my mind and spending so much time with three different salespeople at their store.

However --- the setting is one thing, the diamond something completely different, so I think I will go with WF.

Thanks, Julie! That explains the pricing. I might personally wait for WF to get some H color stones in, but I''d rather have the ACA.

That''s what I would do.
