well it''s the 3rd day of my vacation and we have been robbed. we were enjoying a day @ the cleveland zoo in ohio, and it was wonderful. upon returning to our car, we noticed that the back passenger side window was all the way down,(i put them all the way up). i looked into my car, my mouth dropped. they cleaned out my entire car, literally. many things were taken, a laptop, my son''s medication btw, he has adhd, takes controlled adderall. my purse, his game system, all our clothes, money, social security cards, toiletries, plus damage to our car. good news is that they left my diamond ring in the car.

That''s really horrible! My parents got robbed on their honeymoon and they still talk about it to this day. Not too much worse than that feeling of invaded privacy.

BUT...and I don''t mean to be rude here, but why on earth would you ever leave all those valuables in the car??? That just seems to be asking for it to me...

I am SO sorry! What did the police say? Any hope of getting your things back? I had my purse stolen once... while I was in an adjacent room! They took everything... phone, keys, credit and debit cards, license, etc. I hope this all gets cleared up!

*M*

Oh no, I am so sorry!!!

I feel bad saying this but since they got your SS cards I would look at your credit reports often to make sure they don''t open cc in your name. That is horrible!

well, we keep social security cards in the car because we frequent canada. we''ve been many places throughout us and never had had anything stolen before. i told fiance, if it wasn''t us, it would have been someone else. nothing was with in sight range, just some bottles of water and those kool-aid singles, they took those also. we filed a report with the cleveland ohio metropark zoo ranger, same as police up there. damages to the car were only 950 dollars, i have 1000 deductable, so we''re just having fixed what is absolutely necessary about 354. also checking into my parent''s homeowners policy, fiance and i live with them, so they said it should cover damages with 250 deductible. not too bad whenever you lose out on over 3000 damages. not over yet, we''ll see what kind of fight i will have to endure with the insurance company. police said this happens all the time, just @ random. they said they will never recover any of the items taken, just to write it all off with homeowners policy. btw, if you are in cleveland ohio, i would not suggest visiting the zoo, just keep on driving.....

Geez, well here''s to hoping that the insurance policy treats you guys well!!!

oh I am so sorry!!!

everyone''s been nice so far, except the nasty pharmacy tech @ walmart where i had my son''s medication refilled. he looked @ me and said, "well u just had this prescription filled on the 8th, it''s not due again" i told him i was robbed, he shook his head and told me again that the insurance wasn''t covering it. i told him they had left a voice message on my account approving the refill and again that i was robbed. he asked me, what do you mean u were robbed, like it was all his business, i just felt violated again, like yesterday, like i had done something wrong for going on vacation, and that i was a bad mother for leaving it locked in the glove box. he probably thought i was selling the stuff, i look young for my age, and it is common where we live to do that kind of thing. but all in all i am an honest person. must be an awful lot of dishonest ones out there too. btw, i am a nurse, worked to hard to throw it all away for selling drugs.

Oh, so sorry to hear about your situation! That is terrible. I have to say that i bet your son''s prescription will be a prob as many people are using adderall not only for the intended use but for weight loss...aww, I hope everything works out for you. What a crappy thing to have to deal with on your vacation!

hi! i am also sorry for your loss. i am curious about the comment that your ring had not been taken. was it in the car? if so, where was it located that they did not take it?

i am guessing that thieves must frequent the parking area knowing people will have these types of things in their cars? thanks for posting. this is something else to think about when traveling.

oh, was the window somehow forced down as opposed to being broken?

I''m so sorry to hear this! What a terrible thing to go through during a vacation!

the diamond was from helzberg ( a previous engagement) rb 6 prong 1/3 carat. it was in the change holder below the ash tray. all the change was taken, but they left the diamond ring. btw, they started some kind of fire in my trunk. my trunk ajar light remains on, and my sensors are all screwed up, they set my trunk wiring on fire, soot all over trunk.

first of all they tried to stick something inbetween the passenger side door, scratch marks all over paint inside the door. they must have gotten peed off @ that point. i have a dent in my passenger side rear door where they must have put their knee up on it for leverage stuck something up into the window glass and pryed it down until the plastic clips broke and the window went down inside the door. more for them, less for us. probably some crack head looking for a quick fix. it''s not in a good area @ all. never going there again. they even broke my driver side control panel for the power windows. i had to buy my son some new shoes today.

NNurse420, I am so shocked and sorry this happenend to you, especially when you were just trying to spend some family time at the zoo!! Skippy has a really good point about checking your credit score. And they took your sons Adderall? Geeze I hope the police catch these ppl...sounds like they really invaded your privacy indeed.

i will be calling the ss tomorrow, also the credit reporting agencies just as a heads up. also need to apply for replacement cards.

Oh I feel so bad this happened to you. If it is any consolation...I really believe they will reep ten fold worst than what they did to you.

I was thinking the fire thing could be the result of their attempt to bypass your central locking or alarm system. If they can short the system somewhere...it disables it. It could also be the result of them tampering with the central locking and made it short...and hence the fire.

Odds were, this wasn''t a one time thief...this was experienced low life pond scum. Don''t let the pharmacist comment bother you. Just let it roll off your back. Apparently he also went to Law School and is now a Judge. Totally off line with the way he treated you. His loss in character...not yours.

pharmacy tech was really nice, after the fact, when he handed me my prescription that was filled, after he had to actually work, called the ranger in cleveland, insurance company, and so forth and told me, "thank u for shopping wal-mart!" aren''t we all just so underpaid.........

I am SO sorry to hear this. I know how violated you must feel, I''ve had my car broken into also.

At least you have your ring, but I''m sure that''s a small consolation for all the headache this will cause.

Hang in there.

That is just terrible! And I''m amazed you the the restraint not to smack that pharmacy tech in the head based on his bad behavior. What an a$$, don''t care if he did get friendly at the end.

you really had much more damage than i first imagined. i am so sorry and am sending good thoughts and prayers out for you and your family.

thanks for all the kind support. just got off the phone with homeowners insurance. since fiance and i live on the property, we are covered whoooo hooooo!!!! fiance wanted to smack pharmacy tech, but expressing anger in that way doesn''t get you anywhere but a vacation in JAIL... my prescription coverage called this morning and asked me how things went, i told them about the experience @ wal-mart, they stated that they would talk to their supervisor, ??... and they apologized for their rude response to me being robbed. (he must not have experienced such a hardship before). we were parked in a high traffic area, lots of cars, people and open space. there were lots of dumpsters for recycling example: cell phones, plastic, and so forth. i believe someone must have seen something and they got scared. they didn''t take the stereo amp or speakers. i think they just threw everything in the travel bags we had, took blankets, water and kool-aid and transferred it to another vehicle, like they owned the stuff and were going camping or something. lots of people just mind their own business in the city because they''re with their family present and they are scared, if it''s not theirs, they don''t care. we looked through the dumpsters, but to no avail, nothing was recovered on the property. ranger told us that he can''t patroll it all, not enough help, just forget it and write it off. this could happen to anyone, anywhere. this was a random thing. the thieves didn''t see anything, nothing sparked the breakin, just chance. we''ve been to florida, columbus oh, michigan, indianapolis, canada. this has never happened to us before anywhere, but of all the places for this to happen, in OUR OWN STATE... we were trying to save some money this year since fiance just bought me the ring, i''ve had it for a week now. we would just stay in ohio and not travel as far... wish now we would have went to canada.

Oh no! I''m so sorry this happened to you! I was just hearing good things about the Cleveland Zoo the other day too. A friend was saying that it was better than Pittsburgh''s. FI and I live in Youngstown and have only been to Pittsburgh''s so I was thinking about checking out Cleveland''s. Not anymore!

I am so sorry this happened to you! What a PITA. I have been to the Cleveland Zoo before without incident so I don''t think people should avoid it. I am glad your insurance will cover everything!

if you do decide to visit the cleveland zoo, get a motel first, leave valuables there, or don''t bring anything @ all. the zoo is the best we have ever been to, but not worth the risk of all the damage we''ve endured. ranger told us we were a target, and probably someone was watching us park and get out of our car. we were shifted to the back of the parking lot, since it was noon when we arrived, so whoever robbed us knew we arrived later and would be in there until sometime close to zoo closing. ranger stated that this happens all the time and that he just doesn''t have enough help to catch them all. we called acer the company the laptop was made by. they have the serial number, so if it gets turned in for service, they are calling the police. it''s about ready to crash anyway. i hope it does..... i would visit the zoo again, only by bus trip.

I think that is sound advice for anywhere you travel. You should never keep such valuables in your car in any city or any state. It is a shame that these things happen.
