Rip Off?

Hi i bought a setting 14k whitegold with diamond for 1100 GPB with Shipping to Germany.

I emailed me today the GIA Certificate GIA 15535935 and i found this diamond here on pricescope for 1010$. I think is a really bad diamond very thin girdle and it's faint.

Do you think they ripped me off... i wanted to propose on August 25 to my girl and when i return the ring now i think i didn't get it on time.

What should i do?

Don't panic! Can you post the depth and table, crown and pavillion angles of this diamond, also the colour and clarity and girdle measurements as stated, then we may be able to advise you. I take it with the 'faint' you mean fluorescence? Many of us think it is a great thing, so that needn't be a concern necessarily. Post the info above then we will go from there.

Do you have the crown and pavillion angles on the GIA report? We really need those to be able to judge the cut, but with the info given it may be fine! What makes you think it is a bad diamond, does it sparkle or not? It is the very thin girdle that is concerning you? This may be ok, this can sometimes mean that there is one very thin part of the girdle and overall it may not be a problem - if you want to keep this diamond, it may be best to get to an independant appraiser to get him to check it for you. It seems that similar ( from what I can tell) diamonds are going for around and just over $1k, but it also depends on the setting, a more elaborate setting which may have diamonds in will cost more, so it is hard to tell whether or not you paid too much, also buying online is generally cheaper than a jeweller.

I dont have it in my hands i am just very concerned when i see the stone listed on pricescope for a 1000$ and they sell me the ring with a setting for 2200$ = 1100 GPB.

The Setting is only 14 k WG and maybe about 250 $ value. The Shipping is included and i dont have to pay duty or Taxes to Germany, but still this didnt make the 900$ dollar difference okay. I think.

You mention pounds, did you buy it or are thinking of buying it from a British jeweller or website? This may account for the price difference, but can't be sure. I would get the girdle checked out by an appraiser to make sure that the very thin part of the girdle is ok if you have bought it to be on the safe side.

i ordered it from a British website http://www.dejoria.co.uk/ already and today they send me an email with the scanned GIA Cert. Do you really think its a good stone ?? Because you say the stone looks promising. They didn't told me before with the Fluorescence: Faint before. i am just concerned that the stone is not shinny and looks kind of like plastic or fake.

I can always cancel the order but then i have to reschedule the proposal on august 24.


I just dont know what to do should i go with it?

You could see if they can price match or lower their price perhaps. On paper this looks like it may be a good diamond - if the very thin part of the girdle checks out, but it is best to confirm what the numbers suggest with an Idealscope image if one is available. This will show if the diamond is leaking light and help to predict how it may look as to light performance and sparkle. As to whether to going ahead with the order with this vendor, I don't know what you would have to pay for further costs and taxes etc - if any - if you went with another vendor where the price is cheaper. This would involve some research on your part really.
