I was on the internet and saw a jewelry steamer/cleaning machine. I heard that is not a good idea to put a ring with pave in an ultrasonic machine. Would this be a good alternative? If not what should you use? I just got a Tacori ring and I know it will need to be cleaned a lot. Thanks!!
I would worry about pave settings in a steam cleaner too, mine really puts out a blast - I knock earrings and rings in to my sink all the time. I have a ring with gypsy set blue diamonds and I heat a 50/50 mixture of windex and water out of my pure water filter in the microwave and then soak the ring for about 5 to 10 minutes. I then soak the ring for about a minute in boiling water (ran through the filter) to get the cleaner off. I also used a little jewelry brush on the ring and loosened one of the diamonds up that way so I wouldn''t recomment that either.
Machines? An ultrasonic (I have a referb Sharper Image I got on ebay)
Cleaner? I like the pink stuff - conessiours (? sp) or Blitz (no amonia so works on everything except pearls or emeralds)
I do really like my JJ steam cleaner but it is large so I have to put it up and only pull it out on weekends if I have time.
I like to windex mixture if something I am wearing seems smudgy or (OMG!) someone touched it that day. I''m anal that way.
I''ve been looking for a cleaning solution to use before steaming with the Jewel Jet. Has anyone tried DiamondCare jewelry tablets? I can''t seem to find a decent cleaning solution in my local stores.
I have pave, and I use a concoction of Mr. Clean, Windex, Dawn, and hot water to soak, then scrub with a baby tootbrush, rinse, spritz with Windex, and dry with a lint-free cloth. I want to get a US someday to use every couple of weeks.
There are two schools of thought regarding pave:
1) Don''t do anything that could possibly loosen a stone, and
2) It''s better to lose a stone in a machine in your bathroom than on the street, and if it''s loose enough to fall out there was something wrong to begin with.
I think it also matters if you have good pave or cheap pave. Tacori is high quality so I wouldn''t worry too much. I wouldn''t use a US every day (although some people do), but you should be fine with just about anything.
