So as some of you probably know, from my insurance posts, I lost 99% of my jewelry when I learned I had cancer---and had to take it off for testing. After a bit of distress with insurance, they replaced the one major piece...in lieu of me having to individually purchase everything at Tiffany (it was branded). Graff was SO KIND and did work on the pricing to help- and we settled.

So, I do have an engagement ring.

It is a size 7.25 and is resizable (Graff has been so kind again I cannot stress that). They saved the ring while the debating was going on.

But I am without most other jewelry...diamond earrings, diamond cross, wedding band, watch...bracelets...another necklace (hey, I wear my jewelry daily, and in fairness, told them that when I bought the policy)....

With cancer, my ring sizing has been going up and down as has my weight.

When I was UCLABelle, my first ring (hubby #1) was originally a size 4.75- then I went to a 5.25....I was about 110lbs 5'1. I am now, with cancer treatment for a number of tumors and thyroid cancer which probably caused the weight gain, I am 184lbs, still the mighty tall 5'1, and 7.25.

I would like to purchase a plain wedding band, and an eternity....but I am struggling with what size to buy the eternity ring in? HOPEFULLY I live...and get fit...do ring fingers ever go back down? I assume what goes up must come down, right? And you may wonder- well, why don't I just wait? But even if it is too small, one notion of it being a motivator, is invigorating....plus if I do get a 7.25, and get back down to a 5 or 5.5 or 6, I would have to have sizing beads? Graff said they could also add more metal???? Inside?

I would not buy an eternity at this time. What about a 7 stone or a 9 stone that will cover the top of your finger but
can much easier be resized when you are back to your previous weight?

The only way I would buy an eternity is if I knew I was willing to have the setting remade at some point (which would be an ok
option if you're good with that).

Either way...post pics when you get it...How bout some diamonds studs and a pendant. No resizing issues! I would not rush
to replace everything. Now is the time for you to figure out exactly what you want and have it done the way you want it.
Maybe get in touch with CVB and get her to design a pendant for you?

That is a good idea...I just miss my eternity band...I like the 9 stone idea! And the pendant. Ironically, I think I may let my earring holes close...not sure why but they tend to get infected....platinum, gold, silver---always an issue.

A lot of changes in finger sizes has as much to do with your knuckles as your weight. That, in turn, can have to do with your age, injuries, drugs, and genetics. Mostly they don't go down. If you look at women in their 80's, they usually have big knuckles while mostly teenagers don't. That's just the way it goes. When the weight goes down, your finger size will drop because the 'meat' part of your finger will get thinner, but that may not be the most important limit.

Sizing eternity rings can be a serious problem. To do it in a way that isn't detectable, it needs to be an integral number of stones, and by changing the curvature you are loosening every single stone. Yes, it's possible, but it's a major chore and it's full of potential problems. I second the notion of either waiting till your weight stabilizes or getting a 7 or 9 stone type where there's a sizing space at the bottom.

Thank you DenverAppraiser. I trust you 100%.......

I agree with the above. Get it in your current size so you can totally enjoy it now, but it can be (a) sized and (b) add'l sizing balls if you need to go down to size 4-5ish. I think your fingers will go back down.
Apropos of nothing - my finger size is slightly smaller than when I got married 20 yrs ago (I'd say a 4 vs. 4.25 - but the knuckle - ahh yes - the knuckle! I slither them on with a little cleaning gel I have, then try to just leave em be.

I never thought of the knuckle. Not once.....this is all so helpful....

One of my cancer meds does decrease the bone density too...

Hi! So now I am looking at plain bands or 3/4 diamond ones, for sizing. My mm on my Graff band is 2mm. And it is a more square type emerald cut (beautiful, just perfect) with tapered baguettes. But the 3/4 diamond Cartier I love is 3.96mm. Will it look awful next to my e-ring? I am as you know in the hospital and having trouble finding pictures of it????or something similar????

I would get a plain band, and in all sincerity, wait til you are cancer free and get the eternity in celebration.

This. WHEN you are cancer free, you will need a piece of jewelry to celebrate! An eternity band would be very fitting.
