I ordered an e ring from a local jeweler and it was supposed to be a 7. When we tried it on it was too tight so we got it measured at a few places(we were out of town) and it turned out to be a 6. So I called the jeweler up and he says that ladies rings are all manufactured at a size 6 and then resized to whatever is needed, either by the manufacturer or by the jeweler. Does that sound right?

The setting has illusion set stones in the band and that''s the main reason we are hesitant to get ti resized by them. I''ve heard that there would be potential problems with resizing these settings. Any advise on that?

i don''t know what truth there is in that but if you order a 7, you should be presented with a 7.

Some rings are easier to size than others and different manufacturers have different policies about how many sizes are available 'right off the rack'. Yes, it's fairly common to size it at the end but this sounds like their problem. Take it back and politely ask for a size 7. If it's hard to do, or if there are any additional complications, this also sounds like their problem.

DO NOT take it somewhere else to be sized. If there is a complication and you are not 100% happy, you have every right to a full refund when it's done by the original store, otherwise they can claim that it was poor craftsmanship on the part of the second store (which may be correct by the way)

Thanks for the replies, the store where we got it from will gladly do it. I was just wondering about his statement that all womens rings are made in a size 6 and then sized later. does that sound right? Any manufacturer''s out there?

It''s a common practice to make each design in a stock size because the store only needs to keep one ring in inventory instead of a dozen or more, and usually this is either 6 or 6 1/2. Certain designs that are difficult to size will be manufactured to spec after the customer orders it when the style prevents sizing. Others, like wedding bands, will be stocked in many sizes. It just depends on the manufacturer.

Most stock rings come in a size 6. But ordering a ring, you should have recieved the size you ordered.

no, that doesn''t sound right. Depends on the company like Neil said and certain sizing can be done but most ring designers I''m familar with will make the ring in the wearers size...
