Ring Sizing price fair??

Hi all. I have a platinum and diamond ring that needs to be sized to a 5 1/4 from a 5 1/2. I just got back from a jewelry store that I bought my diamond at (setting done out of state). The shank is a knife edge but plain, no stones. She said that sizing it from a 5 1/2 to a 5 1/4 would make little difference because the ring is "top heavy" and will always spin. She suggested I get the sizing balls put in and I told her I wasn''t interested in that. She then told me it would be $150.00 to size my ring..
I was shocked... I told her that I was very surprised, and I thought it would be more like $50.00. She said that because it was Platinum it is more labor intensive and requires more work.
Do you think that this price seems fair? I''m thinking of sending it back to the company that made my setting even though its going to take more time than taking it somewhere locally... Your input is greatly appreciated!

The knife edge a simple solitaire type setting? You should figure the store wants 100%+ over cost so at a cost of $75 they are spanking it up to pay for being there.

Marty, thanks for the input. Yeah, I thought it was kinda steep! I''m in Milwaukee, Wi. So, if anyone here knows of a reputable and fair jeweler in the Milwaukee area that would be great!

jstarfireb, I just sent an email to the jeweler that created my ring. I''m hoping he will be able to do it at a more reasonable price!

I had a knife edge solitaire sized up 1/2 size a few months ago and I think it cost around $50. It was WG though. $150 sounds crazy!

I had my platinum knife-edged bands sized up a half-size AND soldered together for FREE at the store where they were purchased. Not in WI, though.

If I were you, I would speak up.

A mall chain store that starts with ''z'' (can we name names here?) just charged us $100 to resize my husband''s plain 7mm-ish platinum wedding band up one size.
