Ring size, width of ring ,etc.

What are some important things to know about ring shopping I should know?
From time to time, if I''m near a jewelry store, I''ll go in to ask what my ring size is as I know I flucturate in weight and I''m thinking I also need to know the size of the width of my ering if I plan to wear anything with it and also if I see something online as I can''t try it on right there.
Anything else I should ask?
