I dont know what to do! My ring stopped fitting over my knuckle easily. When I first got it it was way too big( a size 5), it would just slip off. I got it sized to. 4.5 at the jewlers ecommendation, he said it should be a little tight over the knuckle. It fit great when I first got it resized! Well.... Now it is VERY tight going over my knuckle, a struggle....but it still spins on my finger!

Is there anyway my finger could have swollen since wearing the ring ? It is not tight once it's on? It was not tight when I first got it resized, and I have not gained weight.

Maybe I should just get it resized to 4.75?

rings are tighter if you're wearing it with a wedding band too. Also - probably need 4.75 or a 5 with sizing balls

Yep, I would have left it a 5 and put in sizing beads. That way when fingers are swollen, the ring can still fit.

I've been told that constantly leaving rings on encourages arthritis in the joints. I was told to take my rings off at night, not sleep in them. Even so, my knuckles are a little larger now than 10 years ago. I suppose aging has something to do with that.

How long have you had the rings? My original ering/wband were size 4.5. (25 years ago) I'm now wearing 5.25, but just this morning, I could have used another half size. I had to all but force my rings on before leaving for church. Better now, but still not my usual. in this case, it's probably water retention due to the junk food I ate yesterday. If it's a sudden change, give a day or two to see if you go back to normal, if it's gradually come on, then you might think about resizing to a more comfortable fit.

adding; my rings have always fit looser once over the knuckle, but that's just the way my fingers are. The knuckles are larger than the finger, so I always have a bit of a spin, except this morning, when everything was off. Darn parade/carnival food....

I'd take it back to the jeweler and ask if they could increase the size to 4.75.

For what it's worth, I'm 30 and wear the same ring size I did as a teenager. It hasn't changed at all despite a 40lb difference between my lowest and highest adult weights. So I highly doubt your ring size changed in such little time. I also have large knuckles in comparison to where rings sit on my fingers, and I know that 1/2 size can mean the difference between sliding off my finger and barely getting onto it. I think it was just resized too small in this case.

I know some people think this but my thought is no no no no no! My ring should NEVER be tight. Maybe snug, but I should never, ever, even for a second have to struggle with taking it off or putting it on.

I have the thing that it sounds like you have too where my finger below my knuckle is smaller than my knuckle. My finger-part is a whole size smaller than my knuckle, but I size my rings to fit over my knuckle easily. My jeweler would size them to struggle over my knuckle and be snug to my finger, and we always have to have a talk about this when I get things sized. A size 3.5 fits around my finger happily, but good effing luck getting it off! I can struggle into and out of a size 4, but it sucks. A 4.5 slides easily over the knuckle both ways, but still is just snug enough to not be flung off if I wave my hand wildly around for 20 seconds (if I wave it around longer than that it will eventually work its way off, but that seems an unlikely scenario for normal life so I'm not too worried).

A ring should be snug but never tight. Many reasons will cause fluctuation in size, water retention, heat and cold, hormones, and more. I would size it up to 5 and add sizing beads. Either that or if it's really a huge difference in size where the knuckles are, you might want to consider a hinged opening type ring. More costly but a good alternative for those with bigger knuckles.
