I am 90% prepared to pop the question...

Looking to go with the WF "trois brillant" setting in platinum with a 1ct ACA center stone

http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/3Stone/-Trois-Brillant-_1031.htm

I have the proposal planned out and know how and when I am going to ask her father. Only thing is ring size. I want this to be a surprise and am having a really hard time figuring this out. She is about 5''4 125-130 small frame if that helps...

Can anyone give me guidance? I could ask her sister but I really don''t want to do that. She never wears rings so the "measure another ring" option is out.

What about decoys?
Would a "holder ring" work?
Will WF resize? How much?
Will WF exchange for another setting?

A last resort is to maybe buy a size I know will fit for the proposal...then have WF resize. Anyone give any guidance on ring size relative to her height/weight????

Help!!

She really doesn''t have any other rings?? My gf (soon to be FI) never, ever takes hers off, so I had to wait until she left the house one day and sneak around her room to find another ring that I knew she had worn recently and got her size from that. I actually just tried it on and then went to the jeweler and they sized my finger where it fit.

Well if she does wear a ring on her right hand ring finger you could just cuddle with her and play with her hands and take off her ring and put it on your finger and make a joke ( but secretly remember where it comes to!) It''s not going to be totally accurate but at least an estimate. You can''t really tell what size of ring she would wear by her height and weight... my guess would be somewhere between 4-5.5

Nope...no rings. Necklaces, yes. Earrings, yes. That''s about it.

haha We posted at the same time! That would be your best bet

Sorry I know thats not much help... it can always be re-sized!

I''m sure there are others here that could give you more information than I but I can tell you that I just sent my new platinum ring off to Whiteflash yesterday for resizing. There is no additional charge for resizing with them but you are responsible for all shipping costs and they are very specific with how things are shipped. They will only accept packages sent via registered/insured mail and they return the item overnight via FedEx which is $55. It cost me about $25 to send it to them registered w/ insurance covering up to $6300. Hope that helps a littlle...good luck!

Do you know how many sizes they will resize?

If she''s a heavy sleeper, you could try to put a string or thread around her finger while she''s taking a nap? That could work. Otherwise, my advice to go big so that it will at least go on her finger when you give it to her and then you can make it smaller later.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I have also measured my pinky and ring fingers on both hands...they are all different sizes which is good and I can use that as a gauge.

Wow...this is starting to get real...

AWe that ring will be gorgeous!!!! SHe will love it.. just relax and enjoy!!

Do you know how your going to pop the question yet?!

I do know how I will propose and exactly what I am going to say.

However, I would like her to be the first to know about it. I''ve been thinking about this for a long time and am getting nervous...it''ll happen within a few weeks.

I''ll post the story when everything has happened!

YAY!! I can''t wait!! Good luck!

I''m not sure if there is a limit on how many sizes...they had to size mine down from a 7 to a 5.5. Can''t wait to hear all about it!

For what it''s worth, my GF is approximately the same build as your intended. She is a 5 1/4. I wouldn''t put much faith on that as everyone has different sized fingers, but it may at least put you in the ballpark.

I''m the same height and weight as your GF and wear a size 7. Build means nothing when it comes to ring size.

I forgot who originally posted this idea, but there was a Pricescope guy who purchased a plain silver band, pretended to find it in his garage, and then had his girlfriend try it on. Then, based on how that band fit, he guesstimated her real ring size :) When I first read this idea, I thought it was brilliant :)

Also, in terms of trying to guess her size based on her height and weight - I don''t know how accurate that will be. Most of my friends are 5''3-5''4 and similar range weight, but we all have varying ring finger sizes, from 3.5 to 7.

Good luck!

Found the thread that had the ring size idea! It was posted by zomby woof.

I like the silver found ring idea. But chances are that if you''ve been discussing marriage and your future together she''ll suspect something is up if you do anything out of the ordinary.

I really don''t think you can estimate hand size from weight height etc. My best friend and I are approx the same height and the same weight give or take a kilo, and my ring size is a K and hers is a P or Q or something (not sure what that is in US sizes, but it is lots lots bigger). I also know for a fact you can go up and down several dress sizes and your ring size can stay exactly the same. I am fairly, well lets just say curvy

and my ring size is quite small compared to my friends collegues etc. No one I know fits into my rings at all.

A rough way of having a vague idea - I know it''s not ideal, but my partner and I were holding hands the other day and we were comparing how small my fingers were to his. If you hold your hand up to hers (insert mushy stuff here about how gorgeous and delicate her fingers are etc etc) you can probably work out which one of your fingers in the closest to her ring finger and then try on a few rings yourself to get an idea. Obviously not ideal, but I reckon it would get you in the ballpark of a ring that can be resized to her size. Good luck!!

If you can steal one of her rings try and make an imprint into a bar of soap :) and then get that measured :)

Deelight, he says in the original post that she doesn''t wear any rings so the bar of soap idea wouldn''t work for him.
