Hi All... I''ve been reading what I can on here and everyone seems extremely informed.... but I''m not really.... sort of but not really.

We are going to pick out my ''ring'' next week at the Jeweler''s building in Boston (I am great at bartaring so I figure this is the best place to go plus I don''t want to go to a ''chain'')...

anyway... I want what I thought was Lucida style (the crisscross look with a thicker platinum band)... 1 carat round solitaire... VS1 or 2, H or I color..........

Anyone have any roundabout ideas of how much this would cost??

I''ve been told dealers up prices by about 300% with the expectation that they will lower them so you think you are getting a deal......

Thanks for your help... this is more stressful than I thought it would be!!!! It''s not all fun and games... LOL

If you are really going to barter, you should get educated about the facts. Read the tutorials here and on other sites like niceice.com and goodoldgold.com, etc. The diamond market is like most markets -- savvey to those with information, a players market to those without. It's easy to get taken for a ride, no matter how good you are a bartering if you don't know the facts. And, once you are educated, be careful to strike a smart deal. Make sure that you have a good, no questions asked return policy, and get an indeoendent appraiser to make sure you really got what you paid for.

As an alternative approach, once you've done some reading, you may give some of the internet vendors a look. They can deliver spectacular product at market leading prices and take the need for bartering and guessing out of it completely.

Look Here For Basic Price Info keep in mind that these are all AGS0 cut level stones. I would recomend reading about the importance of cut and if you are worried you wont remember right dont the table and crown %. Diamonds are a tricky thing I also would but only with a known ir GIA, AGS, EGL cert and under the condition that you may get it appriased. Good Luck!

those days are gone.remember, just because the dealer give you a 40% off of the sticker price,it still may not be such a bargain. i would guess a H VS1-VS2 1ct top ideal cut H&A GIA/AGS cert stone would be in the $5900-$6300 range.

This is the very reason Im looking to buy from a place like BlueNile. Being only somewhat educated as what Im looking for, at least I should be getting a decent deal without worrying if Ive been taken for a ride or not.

If you decide to go online, I would actually take it one step further and contact the recommended vendors here who have their stones in stock & will give you an honest opinion about how it looks, if it''s eye clean, how good the cut is, etc. I haven''t shopped BlueNile...but I found their a bit high for the quality of the cut.
