Hello all,

First off let me say that WF has been great and is going to look into this ASAP and repair it under their 1 year warranty.

My fiancee has had her e-ring for about two months now and it is severely out of round. We are dumbfounded as to how this could happen as she absolutely babies this thing. She cleans it with a soft cloth every hour and takes it off for ANYTHING that would remotely harm it. It is a platinum band.

She wore it to a wedding Friday night, and did not wear it Sat or Sun as she was doing yard work She woke up this morning (Monday) and it looked like the pics below. Whenever she is not wearing it, she wraps it in a soft cloth and puts it in her hard sunglasses case in her purse (if she's in a rough neighborhood for example and doesn't want to wear it).

She is adamant that she does absolutely nothing but type with it on at work, and takes it off if anything remotely damaging could happen to it.

Is this something that just happens? Should I be worried that it may keep happening?

Some ideas we had that could cause it (some may be stupid but who knows?

1) Her fingers are constantly changing size depending on if its hot or cold. Could this constant expanding do this?

2) Sweat from the other night dancing at the wedding? Hot/cold?

She does not come in contact at all with any hard metals like railings, desks, etc.

One of the diamonds popped out it deformed so much :( If WF fixes this rather than re-casting, can I expect this to keep happening over and over? I always thought platinum was more "durable" but through doing some more reading, I realize it "gives" rather than chipping or scratching. I feel bad cuz no matter what the outcome of the repair, she will be even more paranoid about taking care of her pride and joy. Any ideas or personal experiences would help!

P.S. Vera from WF, here are some photos for you since my Fiancee's camera wasn't able to take good photos. These are from mine. :wavey:

Does she really grip the steering wheel hard? Or pick up heavy items like a heavy suit case or medical equipment or something similar: it's heavy and has a handle? I have bent a few rings that way, and it all started after I started driving my heavy pickup truck a lot. I have to put more muscle into steering it and I evidently grip the wheel harder, too, compared to my cars. Lugging around pet carriers and heavy suitcases contributed, too.

Some platinum alloys are softer than others. And I also think that a ring that's been cut at the bottom for sizing and has one or more solder joints in the shank is also easy to bend compared to one that has not been sized.

They can bend it back but it will probably just go oval again.

First my disclaimer - I have never owned a platinum ring but I've had similar issues with gold rings. Usually this happens to me when the band is thin either width or depth wise. If that is the cause WF could maybe put a thicker shank on it. It is a very pretty ring so I hope it gets fixed for you ASAP.

Is she sleeping in it? Driving? Gripping handles or door knobs? I have a platinum ring from WF and don't see any change in mine but I have had to learn to go easy on my grip (otherwise the ring digs into my finger). I've also heard of people bending theirs while sleeping. They lay on their hands or clench their fists.

Hopefully, this was just a fluke and it won't happen again. My mother's platinum ring was worn non-stop for over 35 years. Yours should last more than two months!!

Interesting ideas. She does not sleep with it on. I asked her that thinking that might be it. As far as the steering wheel, its pretty soft, but who knows. If you look at where it bent, its right along wither the diamonds end on the shank. Wondering if they soldered it right in that area where it bent? Could also be a weak spot right there since there is metal missing and its super thin right there.

Thanks for the ideas! I just hope they fix it right so this doesn't happen again. Whether that means re-doing it and thickening up the shank, I don't mind.
