I hope I''ve got this in the right forum. I used to be a member of the Ladies in Waiting club but my situation kind of fell through but I''m still an avid lurker on these forums because I love educating myself on diamonds.

Anyways, I''m helping a friend pick out an engagement ring for his girlfriend. He was going to buy one at the mall one night after work and I started telling him about everything he should look for and he became overwhelmed and didn''t get anything.

I need help finding a ring that will suit what he''s looking for. He wants to spend around $2,000 Canadian for the engagement ring. This ring is his inspiration.

Except he wants something with a bigger center stone. I''ve seen other rings of this design but I just think that he could do with something with a bit more ''pop'' to it. She really likes the two tone style of rings.

Here is a breakdown of what he wants.

Center Stone: Princess or Round (No Hearts and Arrows or round brilliants)
Price Range: $2,000 but may be convinced to go a little over if I find something he loves.
Color: I''m thinking the G-J range
Clarity:VS2 - I2
Carat: Hoping for around .5 for the center stone

That is all of the information I have right now, if I can come up with anything else I''ll be sure to add to it. I want him to get the best possible ring that he can and I know that the members of Pricescope are great at this sort of thing.

Thanks!

Just thought I would attach the picture you are referring to:

well, i would suggest plugging those number''s into the diamond search on the home page and you''ll have a bunch of options. Here in one i found from Whiteflash''s expert selection

as for the ring design, i would suggest calling a couple of vendors, i.e. Whiteflash, emailing them the pic and get a quote for doing something similar with the possible changes you mentioned.

hehe stretch, I did the same thing

Adding to what MrsSalvo said about calling a couple of vendors, here is Jennalyns e-ring that Whiteflash custom made in platinum from her original wedding set.

Center Stone: Princess or Round (No Hearts and Arrows or round brilliants)
I don''t understand. When someone says round, they mean "round brilliant." So did you mean princess or round with no H&A?

I was just hunting down Jennylyn's ring stretch beat me again..., here's the link

i'm sure WF could do something like the ring you posted without any problem.

Sorry about the whole round brilliant thing, I just copied exactly what he said and didn''t really proof-read before posting. My mistake! I''m trying to get him to email whiteflash but he really doesn''t want to go through all of that work. He''s so difficult!

He''s looking for princess, round brilliant, marquis, or oval. He''s not interested in the other cuts but mostly princess and round brilliant.

He really likes this one http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/engagement-detail.cfm?did=E5913 and she gave her approval but he thinks that he''ll need some huge center stone to make it look good. Any opinions?

I don''t think that type of wavy design would work or look right with a princess. are you saying he doesn''t want a round or he doesn''t want a branded round which would cost more?

He''d definately take round or princess over anything else. He wants something a little different so it doesn''t look like everybody else''s ring. I''ve pointed him to this website but I don''t think he''s caught onto it yet.

1623.00 in USD that seems resonable.... here are some round prices with in your spec range

Okay, so he is okay with a round brilliant, he just isn''t looking necessarily for H&A. I get it now, thanks!

I agree with MrsSalvo that these type of designs probably would look best with a RB.

As for the DCD setting, I would give them a call and see what they say in regards to how a .50 would look in that setting. I would bet you that it would look just fine! I actually would not want a very big stone in such a setting, but that''s crazy old me

here''s a pic of the one you linked from dirtcheapdiamonds. i think it would look very nice with the size stone he''s considering.

What does he consider huge? If he has about 1600 for everything then he could easily get his .5 and the setting above. Also would he want a bigger stone for her if he could have it? Does this include her wedding band?

I would love to see the type of wedding band that would go with those ring designs.

Since I just found this out today I had to share it on this post. If he wants the diamond to look bigger go with round all the way! I was talking to Renee at WF today about my asscher looking not all that much bigger than the .8 RB my soon to be MIL has and she explained to me that all fancy cuts (i.e. anything that isn''t a rb or round h&a) would appear to have a smaller spread because of the depths of the fancy cuts. I think that he should definitely go with the round especially for the second setting, a princess just wouldn''t look balanced IMO.

This is just for the engagement ring. He emailed dirtcheapdiamonds for more information on that tension setting. He seems to really like it but I think he wants to put in a carat in it.

He keeps refering back to two rings from Sam's Club. One is a trillian and the other is some ugly princess cut ring. I can't let him get either of them in good conscious. PS has tainted my view!

I think all of the designs you posted are lovely! I especially like the tension set ring at DCD. I think it''s graceful & modern & unique. I agree w/ stretch that a ring like this would look better with a smaller stone.

Some considerations with this type of mounting are, as LLL asked, what kind of wedding band would fit with it (would it have to be custom made?)

Also, I believe tension settings cannot be easily resized...

Here''s another one from sun jewelry

$2159 includes .75 center stone.

Abit from Sun Jewerly has recently started posting here on PS. I thought the avatar looked similar. I looked on Sun''s website and couldn''t find it but you could probably send a PM, username Sun Jewelry and find out more info.

Oh my! Those last two are absolutely stunning! I''ll pass them along to him here in a minute.

We''re still at a standstill with what he wants. I''m trying really hard to keep him away from Sam''s Club. I couldn''t get the pictures to post for the life of me, but be glad that you dont have to put your eyes through such things.
