I would first like to thank all who post on this forum as you have made my diamond buying experience much less stressful. I am looking for feedback on a price I received for setting a .75 loose stone in an 18 carat white gold 4mm band. Is $950 Canadian (693.48 USD)reasonable? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds pretty expensive to me.

Is it a simple Tffany type setting or something very intricate/unique?

Thanks for responding. I am not to sure of the exact setting name, however, the diamond is held inplace by four prongs and raised slightly from the band. There is no intricate design, however, the setting is a custom design.

Is that price just the cost of the setting? Is it custom or did you pick the design and they're just making it by hand?

Otherwise, many models are really inexpensive and at worst "custom" work would just mean assembling ready-made parts - something that sells for much less (Example Here).

The price is definitely in line with what a simple setting carying some "name" would go for - as you can see. I would gladly provide other examples, but few designers quote prices online

Honestly, it's next to impossible to say how good your price was.




So many variables affect the final price. 1) It's a custom piece, so that means making the wax, etc. 2.) Depends on how much metal was used. 3) Depends on how intricate design is.
