hey guys,

so some of you might know i bought my ering for my lady a while ago.
Last saturday i finally asked the question and she said yes :). (yay!)

now even tho i put in a lot of effort into getting the right size after wearing it for a few days we decided that we need to get it a bit smaller.
Right now its a 6,25 and we'd need it down to 5,75 or maybe 5,5 not 100% sure yet.

heres the thread with some ring pictures btw:

my question now is about where to get it resized:

The site i purchased it on does offer free resizing as well as polishing and replating etc due to their warranty.
The thing is that im from germany and their company is located in the US, so i do have to pay for the shipping costs which are around 40€/50$.
Also it would take some effort to send it there and some time until its back.
To avoid that we were thinking about getting it sized at a local juweler.
I asked Zoara if it would void the warranty, and they said that would only be the case if that juweler would damage the ring in the sizing process.

Now what do you think?
firstly what do you think would it cost at the local juweler, and do you think there might be any problems where they could damage something? like the gravings or the stone even?
Also they should be able to resize it withing a few hours so we could take it back the same day?

im just trying to figure out if its worth it saving the trouble of sending it around the world, or if i should just use the free resizing service.

ok thats it from me, sry for typing that much i just wanted to include all the information that i got ... thx for reading so far and thx in advance for your resposes :)

Honestly and I mean this in the best way possible. Any jeweler store warranty is complete crap. And as a fellow European don't bother shipping jeweler to the US. Just have the resize done locally. As long as their is no pave on the shank you can have it done without a problem AND without having to pay for shipping and VAT when it is sent back.

Sorry Edit to add that I bet your warranty is only good if they inspect the ring every 6 months. So if you dont' ship your ring to the US every 6 months your warranty is null and void anyhow. And resize should be under 50 Euros.

+1

I wouldn't even bother sending it to the US if you can find a trusted jeweler where you are. As someone who just went through a disaster with a big box store and their "store warranty" I wouldn't even bother. I would get the ring appraised if you haven't already, get some insurance on it, and get it inspected and cared for locally. I don't know how it works where you are, but, I actually contacted a local jeweler recently and let them know that I was having a ring (replica of my big box damaged ring) made out of state, and asked if they have a program to care for jeweler that was not purchased from them. They stated I could bring the ring in any time I wanted to be cleaned and checked free of charge, and if repairs needed done they could advise me and I could talk to the original jeweler about them doing repairs, and adding rhodium as needed, instead of sending it back
A quality jeweler shouldn't have a problem sizing the ring and caring for it for you, regardless of where you purchased it.

It's winter when fingers are at their smallest. I would suggest sizing beads for now and wait and see if her fingers swell in the summer. Then size down in the summer if necessary.

thx for the replies guys, we will go to our local juweler tomorrow and see what he says ... :)

any other opinions are still welcome tho :wavey:

I would send it back for sizing and not use a local jeweler based on the setting. I think it requires precision.

I agree with PintoBean. I'd go with sizing beads for now and see how it fits in the summer. And I agree that it is a precision setting, so getting a local jeweler to add the sizing beads is probably a safer option than having them actually cut down the ring.

I just now posted a pic of my ring in Show Me the Bling with a sizing ball, if you're interested.

I think it would me more than reasonable to have a local jeweller resize it, but I agree that you might want to consider waiting until she has worn the ring in different (warmer more humid) weather too. My finger can change almost half a size depending on time of day or temperature!

If getting sizing beads is too much hassle, you can also simply buy some ring noodles as a temporary fix:

http://www.ringnoodle.com/

You can buy them on amazon and etsy too.

I use a ring noodle everyday for my engagement ring, since my knuckles are larger than my finger base.

hey guys, thx again for your help.

we have decided to send it in afterall because our local juweler charged 45€ while the shipping costs me 39 plus he would take about the same ammount of time as my online juweler does INCLUDING shipping to the us AND shipping back LOL.
Also the lady wasnt even sure if it could be done locally or if they would have to send it in themselfes ....
so yeah ^^ also many ppl are talking about varying finger sizes, but she had also worn it in very hot places and it was still too large so i think its save to go about 0.75 smaller from 6.25 to 5.5 :)
going to send it on its way today ... cant wait to get it back :appl:
