I''ve posted about my search for a wedding ring in rocky talky before, but it''s my first time here. I''m now 2 months out from my wedding, and still have no ring. I really don''t know what to do.

Here''s the problem. FI knew I wanted a ring with diamonds on the side. I assumed they would be channel set, but on my ering, they are actually something called "bead set," which looks like channel set, but actually have little tiny prongs in between the diamonds. There was a matching band with my ering, but it had a curve, and FI knew I didn''t want a curved band, so he had the head raised so that I wouldn''t need one. But now I absolutely can''t find a band that even comes close to matching.

I''ve found 2 other rings in yellow gold that have bead set diamonds. One is full eternity, one is half eternity, and both are MUCH thinner than my ering, so the diamonds are smaller. They don''t match with my ering, and look off with the band and ering. I had purchased both rings and returned them. But these are both still options because I have in my head that if I pair one of these thin yellow gold rings with a matching thin white gold ring and my ering, it will look good. I could get the 2 rings (yellow and white gold) for about $660. My original budget for a ring was $500.

I just recently started pricing a custom made job to perfectly match my ering. The lowest quote I''ve gotten so far is about $800, so way past my original budget. And the problem with this is that now that I''ve been thinking about stacking a white gold ring in there, I think that somewhere down the line I might still want a white gold band.

I really don''t want to scrimp on my ring, but at the same time I''m having a really hard time justifying spending so much on the custom ring when I still think I would want another band down the line. I really don''t know what to do. I know this is a personal choice, so if you don''t have any advice that''s okay, thanks for letting me share my inability to decision make!

Commiserations.

I''m in the same boat - I need a curved plat band with channel set 0.2pters from the 8 o''clock to 4 o''clock. Does it exist?

Answer - no, so I''m going custom again...

Finally got FI measured this weekend. He wants a mokume gane ring, so have just sent enquiry form in for that one...

Budget has gone out the window.

I feel your pain.

I''m not going to be much help either, I don''t think - my w-band is beadset, 1.7mm from Artcarved - but I believe their entire bridal line is in palladium.

One thing I''ve noticed though...I think pave and beadset look REALLY darned similar. Somewhere around here there''s a thread with close-up pictures of the different ways to set a stone. Could you do a yg pave band?

Here''s one - Blue Nile YG Pave Band

But it''s 18kt...from your Rocky Talky, you were looking for 14, right?

Meaning, at some point you might want a white gold band in ADDITION to your yellow gold e-ring and wedding bands? Or meaning you might want to swap the metal of your set to whitegold, buying new e-ring setting and whatnot.

I sympathize. My too-nice FI got me a total splurge of an e-ring setting. But nothing but the matching band looked good with that, and boy was that a painful mouthful to swallow. But now its done and paid for and I have a nice looking set....

If you can't find something that premade that looks good with your ering, and you plan to keep your ering for the forseeable future, then do splurge on the matching wedding band. You can get an additional white gold band at somepoint in the future, but this doesn't strike me as necessarily a lifetime piece nestled in between your yellow gold setting.

Thanks for commiserating Pandora!

Elmorton, yes, I am looking for 14k yg. I think that pave ring you posted would end up looking very similar to the thin eternity band I had already ordered and returned and am now considering again, but thanks for the suggestion.

And yes, Cara, I meant I would want to buy an additional white gold band to go with my yg wedding band and ering. I''m not 100% set on yg, and I like mixing them, so I think a stackign band would help since FI is totally against me ever changing my ering. That''s why I''m having such a hard time justifying the extra cost, since even though it would be a perfect match, I would still want more...greedy, greedy Sabine! (smacks myself on the forehead)

Sabine, I''m not sure why you''re having such difficulty finding a beadset band as they seem fairly easy to get. Is it the yellow gold that''s the problem? I''m sure Facets could whip one up quickly for you. And if not, why not just get married with the plain band you mentioned, and save the diamond band for your 1st anniversary? That way you can special order it and take your time.
